Can Atomos recorder design handle 3-4 hours continuous long recording.

I have an Atomos Ninja Assasin, I mostly use it for shooting short interview etc.

Planning on recording to use it on some long event recording, wondering if they even design to handle the heat that long? Will be using wall plug to power it.
Its get so hot when I only use it for 10-20mins interview shoot.

Very likley it will have some sort of thermal protection so it will shut down if it gets too hot so I doubt there is any chance of damaging it.

In HD, it's probably doable.

But I would be more afraid of the ProRes file getting corrupt and possibly losing everything after 1-2-3 hours of recording, which is why I haven't recorded anything longer than 20 minutes on one device in 10 years.*

*If it's a MUST to record something in its entirety without any interruptions (speech, press conference, play, etc), I use a camera that's able to record internally for that long as well.

I would test it out personally. Hook everything up like you want to use it for real and let 'er rip and see if everything works as it should(continuous recording, not shutting down, no file corruption, etc.).

I have the shogun inferno and it gets hot. Never recorded that long with it. About 40 minutes is the longest I've done.
I would do as mentioned above. Test it. And then use it with a camera that is also recording internally that can do it reliably in case the atomos recording fails

In HD have numerous times recorded live multi-cam shows like boxing tournament nights etc and recorded 4.5-5 hours continuously all evening and never had an issue. Will admit the Atomos units get hot but have never had one do a thermal indication or shut down on me. Do they even have a thermal indicator? Again frequently we have used 8-10 Atomos recorders as ISO units on a rugby series for the last few years and cannot ever recall an issue with one failing. Not saying they have never had a problem because I haven't been on every shoot but no one has ever mentioned an issue. For me they have been rock solid so far. Some of the above units were SSD based and some were HDD based. With the inferno at UHD 50p I have shot really long historical doco interviews without issues. I've just checked the most recent longest one out of curiosity and it is 195 minutes long with a couple of refreshment breaks. So far so good.
