Hi

Being antient and over 30 I am looking for a good book on FCPX rather than online video.

I am computer literate but FCPX is the first video program I have used. (though I am a wizard with Light room for stills)

Age has nothing to do with learning. Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X is the best book on the market at the moment. Comes with tutorial material, is hands on.

The age is because I want a book NOT a PDF, iPad, kindle, movie etc. :-) I find the under 35's want it all on electronic gizmos and almost don't recognise books. That said the amount of technical data I have to card about would be impossible in printed from.

Thanks for the book suggestion. looks good (having seen the Amazon and other reviews reviews)

BTW I am well over 30. (I didn't do my BSc until I was 30) and you never stop learning.

Hi

there are two books
Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X was published on Sept 2011
Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro X Advanced Editing was published on April 2012

Given that between August 2011 and December 2012 there have been 7 updates adding a lot of functionality is the Sept 2011 book still "current" or would the advanced editing book be better?

One of the reviews of the "advanced" book says it was delayed 6 months because Apple were adding new features... Question is are they about to bring out 2nd editions of the basic one?

I carry the full library of APTS books on an iPad. My whole library is on my iPad. At 52, I run my whole dang business on an iPad with iWork. Love it.

Apple has mentioned to us trainers that the course material (ATPS books) will be updates at some point, no clue when. The info in the current editions is still valid and great for beginners. At some point, you have to graduate beyond the books and grow. But they're a great place to start. Amazon.com has the best prices. And yes, the eBook versions allow you to download all of the lesson files, too.
