Hey guys, I was reading about the adobe program OnLocation, and I have a music video shoot this week that will be completely free so we are trying to save our costs wherever we can, and for an HVX field monitor this seems like a good bet since a few guys on the shoot are Apple gadget fanatics.

We will be shooting 720p/24pn, but will this be able to be streamed through the laptop smooth?

Any advice is appreciated.

The HVX200 does not output on 1394 in native mode. You would need to be in 24P or 30P to use OnLocation.

BTW, OnLocation is great, I have used it on several shoots as a monitor. You mentioned "Apple gadgets", you do know OL is just for Windows?

If this means you also intend to record to a HDD, I´d skip the 720p and go with 1080p.
Most users here have experienced that the HVX´s 1080 is better than the 720...
Good luck!

****!!!! ok, well damnit. Idk if we have access to a decent PC laptop so now I'm back to square one.

ANY MAC SOLUTIONS?

OnLocation supports recording 720/24p footage *as* 720/24pN. The camera cannot transport a pN signal across its firewire, but that's no big deal. The OnLocation software knows how to throw away the duplicate frames and store only the pN frames, so the net result is basically exactly what you would have gotten had you recorded pN in the first place.

It does what you want. Just put the camera in 720/24p mode; OnLocation will record it as 720/24pN footage.

woo $600 is pricey, but I'll do what I have to do, if the trial version doesn't last for the whole shoot then I'll just buy it. But thanks a lot this looks great!!
