Camera took a spill

Just wanted to share my pain. Camera took a fall today. Director's foot caught on the headphone cable, camera and tripod came crashing down.
LCD is totally busted.
Lens hood partially shattered (I know, I know, it seems indestructible!)
Lens is OK! Camera still works, but it need to be checked out, maybe something else was damaged.
Monday, I'll be calling Panasonic and find out where to ship it to.
Out of all the weird and haphazard shoots we've done, this was just a simple shoot in the park.
Moral of the story is... be careful. Or something.

Had the same thing happen with an hvx (no damage), after that experience I bought a $2 90 degree right angle headphone plug from B&H that unplugs itself easier.

My old DVX with my 35mm adapter attached to it fell off the bed and made it through it, thank God. The only thing that happened was the section right behind the zoom became a little loose, but it was nothing at all. Nothing compared to what could've happened.

i just sent mine in to:

panasonic pro line service center
14212 overbrook road
leawood KS
66224

i talked to a women named peggy and all you need is a proof of purchase (receipt) your name, address, phone number and a brief description of whats wrong. be sure you take down your serial number off of your camera so you can prove it is yours. Good luck! i would still call to make sure though.

Are you kidding me? That is about 5 miles from my house. Had no idea they have a service center here, you guys will have to PM me so I can do an undercover investigation on the service. This is good.... I sent my camera to Japan for service. Uggghh

Then you live pretty close to me as well... Not 5 miles but about a 40 minute drive... Small world man... small world.

I love my DVX too, but come on...:D
Who said I loved my DVX? Nah haha jp, but it was just resting on there for a little bit and fell like two feet. I was devastated at first, but the damage was so minimal. All I could do was thank God...

Thanks for the tips. I will follow that advice in the future.

Does anyone know how long it takes to hear from them? My camera arrived last week, yet they haven't contacted me yet.

That sucks. I never leave my rig unattended. I have my AD or someone else on set hold it if I have to leave for second. My DVX took a couple of minor spills and now I'm totally paranoid about my HVX biting it.
