Hi. I've started to get a lot of event gigs...mostly rock shows , but sometimes need to operate camera for 1.5-2 hours. I'm looking for shoulder camera support...something that might possibly still free both my hands up for tweaking while filming. I've been looking at the anton bauer stasis flex, anybody using that? It's priced at $300, which i'm trying to stay under. does anybody have other suggestions for reasonably priced camera support? Thanks for any input.

check out spiderbrace:

I also built my own for like 10 bucks:

lol, man that picture is funny! It looks like your seeing something in the eye piece that's totally freaking you out.

Cool little rig you got there too by the way.

spider brace is cheap and looks to do the job, but when i'm filming a show I'm constantly zooming in and out, re-focusing...sometimes iris adjustments etc.. I'm trying to find something which will free up my hands while i'm shooting. Does that animal exist?

I see that anton bauer has also released model / brand specific versions of the stasis flex which go for about $375. I think folks are complaining about the $180 version on the bandh space, but still the complaints seem strong enough it makes me scared. The Novoflex Chestpod / Shoulder Pod seems interesting / cheaper, but looks a bit flimsy. Maybe I'm kidding myself and true hands-free support only available in the $750 plus crowd.

OK. I just got my Spiderbace.
That was FAST!
It's really simple.
And it works EXACTLY as described.
I got the extra 3rd handle option and I would strongly recommend it for the extra 10 bucks.
It's really light.
I've used other shoulder braces and I actually like this one better. The round padded rod over the shoulder is more comfortable to me than a flat one.
Large handle spread for great stability.
The wing nut is simply a lock-down for the mounting screw, which is as strong as any other shoe mount screw.
I like it.
Price was right too!

I've got a little Varizoom VZ-1 Shoulder Mount Support. It cost me $90 at the varizoom site. It's nothing fancy but I like it.
