Hi all,

I have been developing a new camera shoulder mount for the HVX/HPX as well as DSLR cameras. I am not selling the item at the moment but I am looking into interest and your thoughts.

Fitted with 15 mm rails and weighs less then 500 grams yet very very strong. Made with industrial grade plane aluminum. Perfect for traveling as it is light weight. Can be converted to be fully kitted out. and breaks down to half the size

The should mount also can be put onto your tripod without taking the camera off.

Cost price will be approx $230USD and this item will come with a 10 years warranty. That's how tough this little bugger is.

If your interested just email me and I will keep you up to date when it is ready to be released. I will be putting together a web video showing you it's uses.

The below images are of the kitted out prototype Shoulder Mount.

Basic Should mount with just the camera below.

not bad but nothing new...how about a real travel solution which flips under the bottom and can attach to a tripod and is nothing but the shoulder rest? thats what Im really looking for ...

Interesting. The above prototype does pull apart to half the size for easy traveling

Issues with folding stocks include too much slack, noise from the joints moving and strength.

Also the should mount can be removed and used only as a shoulder support so you kind of get two rigs in one here.

I have the DVrig pro or what its called and its similar, maybe more heavy.

What I would really like to have is just the shoulder part and the ability to use a tripod.
I can still use the right hand for zoom and on/off and the right hand for focus and iris, so both hands touch the cam....maybe I try out to make a simple one myself ?

I am putting together a demo reel for you guys showing can you can do with it..... And yes you can take the shoulder mount off and have it connected to a camera base plate allowing for just a shoulder support.

Just thought I'd bump this rather than starting a knew thread to ask a question which hopefully someone can answer for me.
I need to get a stabilizer and or shoulder mount.
I've watched all the clips on youtube, minicam, steadycam, glide cam etc,
None of them seem to work if you want to manual focus- touching the cam in any way would negate what the system does.
Would a shoulder rig stabilise a GH13 at all? and therefore allow manual focusing still?
With the stock lens we have a bit OIS, but ive mainly been using a Canon f1.4 with no OIS, will it look too jumpy on a shoulder mount?
any opinions greatly appreciated.

I think it depends on the shot.
Are you moving the camera while manual focus? If yes then it could be a track shot or you could use a shoulder mount but it really depends of the amount of movement your doing while manual focus.

Can I ask what is the media your filming to warrant a manual focus on a moving shot?

touching the cam in any way would negate what the system does.

First, a follow focus system would allow you to avoid touching directly the lens or the camera.

Second, steady cams usually benefit of wider angle lenses where:
1) dof is less narrow so you may not need to constantly refocus
and 2) the lack of optical stabilizer is less evident.

I think that shooting handheld with a 50mm f 1.4 lens (which is more of a portrait lens on the gh1) wide open, especially for moving subjects, you won't be able to have smooth results (most of the time it may be out of focus too).

Try mounting a cheap and light weight tripod as a kind of shoulder support (put one leg on your shoulder and one on your chest, while legs are at their shortest lens) and experiment to see if your footage is less shakey. You can still use the tripod head to tilt the camera and you can pan with your body. I use this technique some times and it is better than no support at all.

thanks guys,
the type of shot I want is what Ive observed on a few music video shoots I've been at,
they always use a RED camera, always shoulder mounted, didnt even have a tripod on site, I was shocked actually,
the operator is constantly chasing focus and moving up and down and around the subject ( be it the lead singer or bass player etc depending on the take ), there is alot of camera movement but I guess its dulled a little bit because of the weight of the big camera.
When I attempt the shot with my GH13 its too jerky due to the light weight, as you said Kostas I think maybe a heavy shoulder mount, maybe with a left hand handle adjacent to the focus ring so I can hold with the palm of my hand and use my fingers to focus might be the go.
Maybe the Panny 20mm lens would be a better option as well, at least if the focusing turns into a disaster I can go auto.
Thanks again guys.
Im off to knock up a shoulder mount
:)
