Camera Settings for Wireless Mics

This is probably a stupid question. On Barry Green's dvd he mentions that you switch the Input 1 or 2 switches off if your mic is a condensor mic and requires phantom power. I just got a wireless mic unit, would I set the switch to on or off, since the mics have batteries they dont require any power via the xlr cables right or do I still need to turn the Input switch to on?

Thanks,

Shaun

if the mic doesn't require phantom power, or if you are using a battery in a mic that does, the the camera power should be off. these are separate switches from the Input switches.

Thanks,

So do I turn off the Input switches as well?

What do you mean the camera power should be off?

Thanks,

Shaun

among the switches under the LCD panel, there is Ch 1 Select, Ch 2 Select, Input 1, and Input 2. The Select switches determine which external or internal mics get recorded. The Input switches only turn on/off the phantom (camera) power.

It is also important to check if your wireless sends 'mic level' or 'line level signal. Your gain stages will be all wrong and the audio will be poor. I have found that most prosumer wireless mics send 'mic level' and something higher, like a Lectrosonics sends 'line level'.

So I'm shooting with an HPX170, and sennheiser ew100 G2 laav mics. I've got XLRs fully connected, mics all set to the same channel, inputs directing audio to the right camera channels and phantom power off. For some reason though, still no audio. Any help?
