As for 24P, what do you like about it versus the 30fps?  I realize it's what true film runs at, but what about the average person?  Can they even tell?  [/quote]

Generally speaking, the reaction I get about 24P from regular "guy-in-the-street" type people is "Is that video?!!.. looks more like film".

A true story.

Re: Camera Selection

If you are going to the web, resolution is not important, then the advantage the XL2, or the Sony aggainst the DVX is bust.

The Sony has some pretty bad audio options, so that would be a big downside of something that will not have any benefit. And besides, progressive footage look much better on the net, and 24p is much easier to compress. If you should ditch 24p, you would do a better thing by going down the chain and getting a Sony PDX10 or a DVC30. Using a good 60i camcorder would also yeld good results after deinterlacing in post through regular procedures (in fact, if you frame size were half of the NTSC frame size, you would not need a progressive capture at all). And that would save you some money to invest in other aspects of produciton as audio (and that the frame size will not help to cover).

So that leaves you with the XL2 aggainst the DVX. Both advatages I see the XL2 have are the native 16:9 resolution (which would also mean nothing, since you'd be using smaller frame sizes), and the sharpness, which would also be unnoticable.

So I would be torn in going 1000 bucks higher in price for the 24p or saving some bucks and taking a cheaper camcorder, but would never trade the DVX for any of the other 2 you mentioned if my final output were web.
