Camera recording super blacks and super whites, normal?

I'm using the Film-like settings that are recommended by the DVX DVD that comes with your new DVX and after I capture via firewire into vegas and view the shots on the vector scope, it seems to be recording super blacks and super whites. I just want to know if this is normal?

Assuming your video scope is set for Studio RGB (16 to 235)...

It's normal to see white go above %100. Both my DVX100A and TRV-38 produce "superwhite", as do most video cameras I believe.

With my master pedestal set to minus 6, my blacks sometimes go a little below 0%, however most of the time it right around 0%. So the answer to your question is, yes, it's normal.

If your blacks are waaaay below 0%, you could always try doing a black balance on your camera, if you haven't already.
