My DVX100 is showing a black "X" in a red circle on my display screen. I know this means that the footage being recorded is going to be messed up. The first time it happened, I took it in to get the heads cleaned and then it was fine. I shot a whole feature on it with no problem. The second time, a month ago, I took it in again and had it cleaned by the same guy, but this time, about a week later, the "x" reappeared. I thought it might be the tape as I was still using the same tape as when it messed up. I changed it and it worked fine for two hours of footage. Now, a month after the latest cleaning, it's messing up again (on a brand new, blacked tape).
Here's the stats on it: I'm the second owner, it has 425 hours, and -has- been used as a deck (I know it's bad, but I had no choice). Am I screwed? Has it bit the dust? Should I try to have it cleaned again? I'm going to try a different tape, but if it does the same thing, what am I looking at?
I've never cleaned it myself; I've always taken it in to the authorized Panasonic dealer. Also, I've had to change tape brands recently. I started originally with Panasonic tapes, but then I couldn't find them anymore, so I went to JVC Pro, but now I can't find -them-, but I've found the Panasonic ones again. The red x thing did start happening around the time I switched tapes, but I don't remember if it was on a Panasonic or JVC tape when it actually happened.
I'd appreciate any help.
