Camera PL Mount to OCT-19

Hi all,

I've been looking into Russian late 1980s oct-19 lenses for the F35 and found some very reasonable deals. However when it comes to convert them to PL mount there are so few options and definitely there isn't any adapter that exists at all and that kinda made me wonder why.

Arri PL ffd is 52mm
OCT-19 ffd is 61mm

So basically a mechanical adapter would be possible since there are about 9mm of difference? As of right now the only option is to either send the lenses in to a lens tech/or take pictures of the lenses and depends on the design the lens tech would or would not send in a PL mount for for DIY conversion. Could we possibly get a OCT-19 camera mount and a PL lens mount and fabricate an adapter that will stay on camera instead of one adapter for each lens? There must be some technical restriction that I'm not aware of (since the RED folks have been buying the whole OCT-19 mount that bolted on the camera itself - maybe it's easier, or maybe it's impossible to create a OCT-19 to PL mount) and there's very little info I could find on such matter. Anybody cares to explain?

Thanks :)

Do you already have the russian lenses? Today I think the GL Optics 18-35 and a 70-200mm converted to PL would be the cheapest buy in for a nice set on the F35. If you really want primes there is a lot of PL converted russian glass that shows up. Nikon is proven to work ok on the F35, and it sounds like Canon is coming soon too. Oct-19 is just to obscure for the already obscure group of F35 owners. Of course it could be done, if you want something like this done, you will need to spend a lot of your own time or $$.

Thanks Yachacha, I read that thread you linked a while ago and that leads me to starting this thread since putting a mount on a lens seems like a lot of troubles then why don't we put a mount on the camera instead? I already have some modern PL lenses to use but was attracted by the marvel of Soviet lenses.

On the other hand though, are the GL 18-35 and 70-200 color matched, or at least close in some characteristics?

Thanks again :)

Hi,

I recently bought a set of LOMO primes in OCT19 and had done a fair bit of research into them. I don't think there is a OCT to PL mount adapter in existence, but there are lens technician who can convert the mount for you.

This is direct copy and paste of my correspondent with another Lomo owner.

"If the lenses would have still been in UK, I would have advised you to send them to Les Bosher ( les@lesbosher.co.uk ); his price is not much higher than the Russians’ and you would have saved on shipping money and time. And he does a fine job while you can pay him via PayPal .

In Russia, the technician I usually work with is Dima Turaev, from St. Petersburg. ( dimaturaev@gmail.com ) . He is absolutely reliable and does a very good job . Price would be $400-500 per lens including PL mount and focus gear. To the Russians you always have to pay via wire transfer, they don’t take PayPal. A very good option is Olex Kalynichenko (olex.camera@gmail.com )

If you are located in Asia, you could also try Eastern Enterprises, in Japan; they do rehousing and mount changes. I have never worked with them, but many say they are very good and have decent prices."

Yeah, you have to modify the lenses to get OCT-19 to connect to PL.
Is the mount on the F-35 PL native, or is it actually a Sony FZ mount under there like the rest of the F-series? I ask because it IS possible to find OCT-19 to FZ adapters. I just received one from Poland.
