camera not recognised by pc

I'm trying to offload some DV to the tape deck on my hvx. I've connected it up thru the usb 2.0 socket with no success. I've hooked it up to firewire and bingo! Only it wont communicate with Avid and screws up after a few minutes.

I remember barry saying to use usb2 so what am I missing. The cable is the right fit but could it be the problem or is there a menu setting I need to change?

Here are a couple of things to check:

In order to use USB, you must have a USB 2.0 connection and you cannot route the connection through a hub or anything that might drop it to USB 1.1 speeds.

You need to install the P2 drivers from the CD or from Panasonic's P2 site.

You need to configure the HVX's PC MODE as a USB device instead of a IEEE1394 device in the OTHER FUNCTIONS menu.

Actually, I take all of that back after actually reading your post. :embarasse

You're not trying to retrieve video from P2 media, you are trying to transfer DV video to your HVX200. For that you MUST use Firewire.

Turn the camera off, and set the media switch to TAPE. Turn the camera back on, set the PC MODE to IEEE DEVICE in the OTHER FUNCTIONS menu, go to VTR mode.

Ok. usb for data. firewire for streaming dv.
Still doesn't explain my pc not recognising it so I will check the usb device mode and see if that picks it up. If not, maybe its the the cable I am using.

Thanks THoff
