Camera Mount

I'm going to be shooting a TV commercial in the mountains on a highway of a person riding a road (speed) bike, not a mountain bike. I'd like to get some car to bike drive by shots. Any recommendations on the best way to rig this shot? I'll be shooting with the F3 with Zeiss CP's. I'll also be shooting over-crank 720p 30/60.

I just wanted to see if anyone had any other camera mount recommendations for me.

No sure if you got sorted yet, however I suppose it depends on what you want in the shot. If you want the car to be hidden I would do it semi-hand held with some kind of glidecam setup. Wide-ish angle to give enough for image stabilization cropping.

Another option I have seen was doing footage around a car close up - mounted a camera on a pole and the camera man stands on the back of a pick up (braced so he doesn't go flying) he moves the camera around the car whilst in motion.

Or I might make up a custom rig with some PVC pipe, strong speaker magnets and some cheap tripod heads for joints. Make the rig to stick to the car with a proper tripod head on-top.

OR....I should stop really....OR use a longer focal length lens and change the scene so that you semi follow the rider. The longer focal length will compress the scene a bit and with moving background will give the perception of higher speed even though its in reality slower.

But that is my thoughts - haven't done anything like that before.

Hope you get sorted.

Vibration will often turn a CMOS sensor to jello. If you're not going to use some serious stabilization, sometimes its better to shoot hand out the window.

I am planning to shoot at 720/30p over cranked to 60p. The Tyler Gyro seems like a good option so far. I'm looking for other manufacturers who make a product I could rent.
