Looking for solutions for a camera mic mount on my F5. Has anyone found a great mount to attach to a top cheese plate or 15mm rails attached to a top handle?

thanks,
Kirk

Thanks guys, I have a mic but I don't have a shock mount. Both those work with a hot shoe mount. What shock mounts are you using?

I generally use the one mentioned above as well. Good thing about this one is the size as it will accept a relatively large diametered mic or a smaller one. The isolation is very good but the mic tends to move around a bit, as it is held in with "rubber band" like rings. Pearstone makes a modified version of it. K-Tek has a bunch of mic mounts too that are a lot more robust and can be moved to a boom pole but they are well over a $100. The RODE can go to a boom as well but you have to treat it carefully. It won't take to knocks the way a K-Tek mount would.

Funny, I just made a mount tonight. All I did was get a flat piece of steel 3/4 inch wide, about 3 inches long and drilled a 1/4 hole at one end and a tiny hole at the other. Bent it in a S shape. And I can just use the mike mount from my F3. 1/4 bolt at one end, to top of handle then just used the same screw that hold the mic mount to the F3. It has a captive nut in the mic already.

Thanks guys for all the suggestions. Jason you must do a lot of handheld to be able to bend steel like that. :2vrolijk_08:

The problem with most generic mike mount solutions for the F5 &F55 is that the camera is so petite and narrow that the mike almost always ends up in the way of the top handle or other accessories. I discussed this with ARRI and they came up with a nice solution. Tey now make a small offset mount, which repositions the mounting point both horizontally and vertically. It is designed to work with the Arri F5/55 accessory system, but can be used with any 3/8" socket.

Atop it I like to use the K-Tek SSM mount. I like the design's adjustability, solid build quality and isolation. This is the combination we sel regularly to our clients and what we supply in our rental department.

I found a page that shows that ARRI microphone holder bit and here is a good page that shows the K-Tek mounts. It should be noted you can purchase small short microphone sized cylinders with threaded ends that screw into these K-Tek mounts so you can use them in existing camera mic mounts if you wish. Reason being these provide much better sound isolation than most onboard camera shock mounts. I use the SSM mount that Mitch mentions. It is versitile for both on camera and boom applications, if you have to switch back and forth without need for a zepplin/boom rig for outside recording.

Is anyone using the sony cac 12 mic mount? Wondering if the screws will line up and work on a cheese plate?

I doubt those holes are for 1/4-20 bolts. Most of the Berkey Plate holes are on 1.5" centers. There are some on 1" centres which is the standard on the element technica top plate. You could easily get someone to put that Sony Mic Holder plate on a drill press and bore out some holes to make it work.
