GH4 camera lockups / crashes FW 1.1

Had my first freeze/lock-up today with FW 1.1, while shooting 1080/96. There was a mix of footage on the SD - 4K/23.976 and 1080/60 as well. Other 1080/96 was fine and once I pulled the battery and restarted, it recorded fine.

I have had this GH4 lockup on two out of two shoots. Shooting Cinema 4K/24P to a 64GB Sandisk Extreme card formatted in camera and a U3 Transcend formatted in camera. Both times were on long clips, over 5 minutes. What does "shoot without lens" have to do with this problem?

Bumpity bump.

Has anyone ever found a solution for this? I am running firmware v2.3 with a MetaBones SB and Canon glass (happens with the 24-70ii as well as the Tokina 11-16). This happened at LEAST twice per day last week while I was shooting constantly, and it was pretty frustrating/embarrassing to tell the talent to hold their positions while I reset the camera by taking the battery out. Then I have to line up the shot again, etc...

Shooting in 4K at 30p, if that matters.

Anyone heard of a fix?

Allow me to chime in here. I don't have a GH4 but I recently purchased a Panasonic G7. The same thing was happening to me. Several times in a few days. Camera would lock up, would not stop recording, couldn't power the camera down, etc. Had to eject the battery. I was using a Lexar 128GB, 150MB/s, class10 (3) SDXC 11 card. No long clips, all 20 second or less. Shooting 4K, 30fps. It happened several times, so I sent the camera back after a week or so and got a replacement. Same thing happened with the new one.
I changed cards to a Transcend 64 GB SDXC 1 (3) Class 10 95 MB/s and have had no problems since. I also shot about 100 short clips with a SanDisk Extreme 45MB/s Class 10 SDHC just to experiment, and the camera had no problems with that one either. I am keeping my fingers crossed.
Don't know what any of this actually means, but I thought I would add my experiences so perhaps Panasonic can figure this out.

See, one of the reasons why I don't think it's the cards is because this mostly happens before I have even shot anything. Just turning on the camera, lining up the shot, and then walking away for a minute (but not long enough for the camera to go to sleep), and then returning only to find the camera frozen.

Change the card anyway, cards are cheap and get a UHS-II card like Panasonic recommends. The other thing you can do is a factory reset and see if that helps.

Are you using Panasonic batteries? Do you have the same issue without the adapter?

I'm having a similar problem when shooting in stills mode using Metabones XL (0.64) and Canon L 50mm and 35mm.

I'll take a few photo's (90% of the time in Aperture Priority mode), leave the camera on for a minute whilst I'm doing something else, come back, and when I go to adjust the aperture, there is no change. All the settings are frozen. It won't even take a photo if I hit the shutter release. I need to turn the camera off, then on again.

I began to realise it always seemed to happen after I had used the touch screen to move the focus box.

One thing that helped, was going through and ensuring every auto-focus type setting was turned off. All of them. I feel like that was a problem. Maybe there was a hang-up in comms between the camera and the Metabones (or maybe between the Metabones and the lens).

Since I rechecked all those settings (after re-watching Dave Dugdale's GH4 guide), I don't believe I've had a problem.

I don't have any dedicated M4/3 lenses, so I'm only guessing.

Mine locked up a couple of times yesterday.

Was filming a wedding. All modes were working fine for the first 3 hours of the day. Start getting broll in church. Shots are locking up in UHD 24p. I have a sandisk 128gb extreme pro 95mbps card in at the time.

I think maybe it's the card, so I run to grab a 64gb extreme pro that's been freshly formatted. Same thing, locking up all shots! Finally try HD 24p @ 100mps, that locks up too! Ceremony starting. In a panic, I switch to avchd 24p and that works.

I had a safety cam, so I start attempting 4K again. MP4 (non lpcm) now works fine and works for the rest of the day on both cards.

What the hell? Maybe it was just a heat issue? I've shot hours and hours and hours of 4K on both of those cards without issue. It's the randomness that frightens me. I could've easily lost critical footage yesterday and very nearly did.
