Camera LCD display clarity, noise problems.

Just wondering if anyone has come across this. On a two camera shoot, I noticed that our DVX 100 had a very nice solid image on the lcd screen. Our DVX 100A had noise no matter what I did. IT wasn't clean by any means and obviously is a much newer camera.

All of my settings (that were consistent between both cameras) were identical - both menu settings and setting buttons on the cameras' housing.

Same lighting, same scene.

I'm betting you had the EVF Detail turned on with the DVX100A (it's an enhancement not available on the DVX100). With the EVF button turned ON (the button is below the eyepiece) there is what appears to be "noise" in the LCD screen. It's NOT picture noise, however, and it does not get recorded to your MiniDV tape. It's just the "EVF detail function" doing what it's supposed to do, which is to enhance edges with a twittery looking white edge so that you can theoretically focus better. It does look like noise, though, and becomes more pronounced depending on how you focus (in focus it's clearly white along all edges/sharp details--but out of focus the white goes away).

To ensure it's not noise, you can just toggle the EVF Detail On and Off...or leave it off. Again it doesn't get recorded to your images, so not a big deal. Anyway, that's my guess as to what the "noise" is you describe. (Unfortunately, if you tried to focus to get RID of the white detail, you may have gone a bit out of focus in your picture, because the white "noise"/edge enhancement appears when you're actually IN perfect focus.)
