Camera just shutting off

Hello,
I was working on some scene file settings etc. on my camera tonite, and it just shut off. It was plugged into the ac adaptor at the time and the lcd screen was out, is it the internal battery? The camera is brand new with about an hour of recording/playback on it. Is this normal?? Any help would be cool. Thanks, tim.

Page 50 of the Settings manual:

OTHER FUNCTIONS screen---> TAPE PROTECT----> POWEROFF: STBY

When toggled, this will keep your camera from turning itself off after 5 minutes with record being hit.

BTW, get to the other fucntions screen by hitting menu button on the external body of the camera by the handle. Then toggle all the way down to the last option: there it should be other function where you can then play with the file settings to your hearts content and go back and forth playing with knee, gamma etc without the camera shutting off and you losing all the information before being able to 'save file'.... I've been there a few weeks ago.

another added note, if you're just testing the scene files/settings and won't be recording anything, yo can just take the tape out and the cam won't shut off.. it will save hours on your heads too i believe

That's true, because a tape isn't engaged.

so if the tape is in there while the camera is on, it is logging hours on your heads?

Yeah, I forgot to mention that. It's on pause/record mode. You know how to check the hours clocked on your head right?

I actually didn't see anything in the manual about looking at the hours on my head...but I didn't look really hard for it. You'd probably save me a few mins if ya told me! Thanks man.
