Camera just breaks?

I was on a shoot where we were using four cameras (my new (used) DVX100, an XL1, and two PD-170's), and we were using the DVX for the first shot (naturally) so we have it on and everything is in working order, but I turn it off, switch to AC power and mount it on the tripod...turn it on...no picture.

The screen reads "Processing"...and then nothing. Just black. I try to AWB, but it says "LOW LIGHT"...the lens cap IS on (in case anyone thinks I would forget).

The camera was working literally 2 minutes before perfectly, and then it doesn't work at all. The same settings were kept on, aperture and shutter all the same...so that's not it.

I reset it, and it's still like this...

Has anyone ever heard of this?

BTW, the little percent in the bottom left corner of the screen says 0% at all times, where usually it has some number.

Re: Camera just breaks?

If you have the lense cap on, and you try to white balance, of course it's going to read "low light", and of course your percentage is going to read "0%" because, with the lense cap on, no light is getting into your camera. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you're trying to say though....I forget if the DVX has an onboard memory battery to save settings and stuff, if so a dead one might be the root of your problems. The only other thing I can think of is possibly a power spike fried your electronics?

Re: Camera just breaks?

I'm whitebalancing (well, trying to) when the lens cap is off...

It's black...

I just took it to Vistek (place in Toronto) and they said the camera isn't communicating with the lens...or something...

So I'm taking it to Panasonic on Monday...

Re: Camera just breaks?

Same thing happened to me a month or so ago... turned out I had the iris closed. Figured it out before I had to take it anywhere though. :-[

I'd call Panasonic Tech support for Pro cameras at 1.800.222.0741. I spoke to them for about 20 minutes regarding a problem and they were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. If there's a problem they can't repair, they will direct you to the nearest warranty repair center.

Turns out that it was the shutter.
The shutter was stuck behind the lens or something, and they had to open up the lens and adjust it...

Total cost, 150 plus 15% tax.

173 something...not bad. But the cam is fixed and I won't be bugging you guys about it anymore :).
