Camera Industry In Crisis

doesn't look like anything you can make a 4K movie camera with

Some of those are industrial but the APS-H high res sensors can be used for photography in an area where the medium format dominates. The 4K/6K/8K sensors would compete with Canon's own line of products.

Canon states that APC-H is suited for aerial photography. It has no auto focus, so it'd fall on the manufacturer to add it via LiDAR or simply go all-manual and entice its users to add the external LiDAR, currently/already available for under $200. The manufacturer would also have to pick the aspect ratio/s. 120 MXSI comes in 3:2, which is acceptable for the studio work. The full frame EF mount will avail it to accept almost any FF lens with an adapter. And then one might have a 120 MPX faux full frame photo camera for under $1,000. There ought to be a market for it. The 102 MPX medium format Fuji GFX 100 is $10,000.

I will note that this article is entirely about the photo / DSLR-mirrorless level of the industry. Not at all about the $5000+ level. Of course the sub-$5K market is far larger but that does not necessarily reflect on the other parts of the business. Industrial cameras have expanded exponentially, and the pandemic has meant huge growth for the PTZ corporate/educational markets. And that's just two aspects among many.
