There was a recent thread about shooting in cold weather. Doa search and you should find it. One of the important points I remember was about not moving the camera from a warm location to the cold and viceversa.
When you have any device that is cold and you do not want to get it wet or even moist;
1) Before taking from the cold wrap it as airtight as possible. Plastic food wrap would probably work well.
2) leave it wrapped in the warm area until it is all warmed up.
This should prevent moisture/condensation from the warm area from forming on or in the device. Any moisture that was already in the camera when taken into the cold area should not be a problem.
The worst problem I have encountered in low temps is eyepiece fogging. I don't use the flipout because the cold is already shortening battery life so I use the eye piece and the warmth of by head/eye tends to fog up the surface sometimes. Could be I'm too hot, but I see no evidence of that anywhere else
What about the Porta Brace Polar Bear cases that they sell at BH and other places? They're basically like a rain cover...but for cold Does anyone here use them or do you just bundle up and let your baby take the hit?
I used it in nearly -30 degress cold. No problem happened. I used Porta Brace but it wasn`t exactly fit to the camera because of video out cable and also the LCD use.
