Camera Guy Looking For Scriptwriter

Well, boys and girls, I have finally found my script. Thanks to Chapelgrovefilms, I have the "mental" horror script I was looking for. It fits exactly what I was envisioning.

Dave, kudos and thanks! This is going to be a great collaboration.

Thanks to everyone else that sent me samples, they all were really well written, but just not what I was looking for.

Now it's time to start pre-production. So I guess this makes me a producer/director now:-Dum(DBG): LOL!

Doc

Thanks Doc! Sounds like you're really pulling it together. I'm very excited to see what you do with 'Prey'!

Good luck!

David

Well folks, unfortunately Doc disappeared on me. He was very interested in purchasing the script, then suddenly he vanished. His last post on any thread on this site was on 5/31/2008. I've sent several emails and PM's, but no replies.

I hope nothing's happened to him. If anyone knows anything, please let me know.

Meanwhile, that brilliant short script he wanted is up for grabs again. Anybody interested?

.

Once you get revved up and making a film becomes a real deal, a lot of people get cold feet. That sucks, Dave. I hate when that happens.

Yeah, I know what you mean. Some people get excited about the idea of being a filmmaker, and they enjoy the attention and prestige of sounding like they've got something going on -- but they don't want to do the actual work.

Not saying that's the case with Doc. Frankly, I don't know what the deal is with him. He could've got hit by a train or something -- God forbid.

Anyway, he's the 2nd person I've had excited about this particular script -- which is called 'Prey'. So I'm sure there will be others. I just hate it when people disappear and you never really know what happened, you know?

Where are you, Doc?

Sorry to hear about this.

Must admit it has happened to me so many times, it's not funny.

You get excited, this is it. A real opportunity and then it either dies or drags on and on and on....

Sorry man. I know exactly how form feel and it's a feeling I for one and fed up with.

All the work and none of the glory!!!

Yeah, he posted on firelink.com as recently as yesterday. Apparently he used to be an EMT. On another site HBS (the Homebuilt Stabilizer Group) he identifies his production company as Bengal Productions, Inc.

Did he steal your script or did he pay for it and just stop contacting you? Because if it is the former then something needs to be done and I will help you out if you need it.

I hesitate to make public accusations. Let me just say he never paid me for the script, and it appears that he is proceeding to shoot the film anyway.

As for something needing to be done -- I agree, but there's really nothing that realistically can be done. It's not worth the expense and aggravation of suing over a short film script. There's very little likelihood anything big will ever come of his production. If it does, then I can reconsider.

My biggest concern is that this would hamper my ability to sell the script to anyone else. Luckily I have a very prolific muse, so there's no shortage of story ideas. It's not like my whole life is tied up in this one script.

So really, all I can do is learn the lesson and move on.

Thanks!

Actually, I was being pretty civil in public, I think.

I have no intention of battling this out on the public forum. You had your say. I responded via email.

Glad you weren't hit by a train. :)

Folks, I'll be the first to admit that I saw red when it appeared that Steve was producing the film without paying me for the script. And I wrote the email to Steve in anger, which I regret and am embarassed about.

At the same time, I feel justified in being upset at the way this was handled. A quick email from Steve could have avoided all of this.

At any rate, the matter is resolved as far as I'm concerned. And as I told Steve in my reply to his email, I wish him luck with whatever projects he is pursuing.

(chapel, you should check the date of when the thread was started)

Firelink.com is an odd board -- the first I've ever seen that doesn't give an actual date or time that a post goes up -- all it says is that it was posted "About 1 month ago". Which I took literally as meaning "Roughly June 16th". That would've meant the post went up almost 3 weeks after the last communication I got from you -- and that is what upset me.

If this was all a bunch of messed up communications, then I apologize for flying off the handle.

Believe you me, I know what it's like to have too much on your plate. (And I don't mean food!) :)

Doc sent me this same offer via email. I just replied and told him that his enthusiasm for the story was very energizing for me, and I always appreciated that. So I have offered to give him the script for free, in hopes that someday he will be able to produce it.

As far as I'm concerned, all is well.

To all those reading/following this thread, Dave and I have made peace and the fault lies on solely myself.

I still stand by my earlier statement that the script is amazing. I just wish I had the time to shoot it. I will tell you Dave, I did come up with an idea for an opening scene/title page idea when I was looking at locations for ideas, back in the day.

Glad to hear this got sorted. There's yet another lesson or two in here for all of us.

Hopefully the short makes it to the finish.
