Camera Guy Looking For Scriptwriter

Let's face it, we all have weaknesses. Mine is scriptwriting. But I still want to shoot a film, preferable a horror but not a slasher. I want to do a "mental" horror pic with emphasis on realism. I want the feel of "this could actually be a true story".

The camera work I would want to handle, and maybe assist with some of the direction. Obviously, I couldn't hire someone, and they probably couldn't hire me, so this would be a collaboration-type project.

So the question is, how do I find that writer/director that would want to work with me? I have most of the camera and edit gear, as well as a massive source for free talent and music.

Ideas??

There are lots of good writers on this board who are willing to help out other members, including me. I am pretty busy at the moment, but if you are patient, I would love to help you out. PM me or post with some basic details like length, etc...and let me know if you would like me to try and help.

Coarsegold? Holy cow, I know where that is! I used to live in Fresno.

I would want the writer to also act as primary director, and I would deal with arranging most of the other details. Duties would be split. This will be a low budget deal, so someone close would be best, but I am open. I want to shoot!

It is not often I find someone who knows where I live. In fact, the usual response is "Where the hell is that?" and, not wanting to say it's near Fresno (sorry) I try to get away with "Near Yosemite" but even still, I sometimes get "Where?"

Anyway, I don't think I can take on a Director's job right now, I am so busy with my own work. If all you needed was a script, I'd jump on it because, depending on the length, I can scribble one out in less than a week.

Sorry about that, maybe another time. If you are ever in need of just a screen play, let me know. There are two things I am strongest in: acting and writing. Best of luck!

 Cheers,

Sheesh, dunno about the rest of you guys, but someone near LA that'll let you direct your own script? And he'll do everything else? What are we waiting for?

I'm waiting for Doc's next post about gear, He'll probably say something like "I have a Varicam and a grip truck but am planning to upgrade everything if I find a writer..."

I have four cameras, an HVX-200, X2-BU, and 2 consumer handicams. My edit rig is a G5 with FCS 2, Shake, and fully loaded. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=134983

But on the other hand, I have a friend who does set lighting for a living (lots of extra gear at my disposal), many contacts at a college for talent (maintained my relationships there), quite a few people begging me to be cam operators, and willing to do it for free and at my direction (with their own camera's, provided I supply the media). Music is also not a problem, as I know many, many talented musicians (who play in WELL-known bands) who would love to just have a credit on a movie, even an indie.

You know, deciding who wants to shoot, and who wants to direct is nice... but the question is, who will produce? That is the important guy ;)

Been thinking about that for some time. Depends on the budget numbers. I might front some of it, to get a start on it. Then I have some contacts I am going to tap the shoulders of.

But on the other hand, would this be the wrong way to go to do an indie "short"?

Actually, that would be the proper way to do it. Most folks don't, because they have no money, nor do their friends and family. But if you want to watch a doc about independent films, search for The Great American Movie. It is about a guy who with the help of friends and family, finished his indi zombie movie over the course of about 8 years.

Doc, did you ever find a screenwriter to work with?

I have a horror short -- 'Prey' -- that I'd like to see produced. I couldn't do the directing, since I'm in NC. But if you'd be interested in reading the script, then PM with with an email address and I'll send it to you.

Good luck!

I can offer preproduction services in the form of breakdowns and such. I would offer to help on set, or direct, or what-not. But I am on the East coast.

Send me a PM if interested.

Well, boys and girls, I have finally found my script. Thanks to Chapelgrovefilms, I have the "mental" horror script I was looking for. It fits exactly what I was envisioning.

Dave, kudos and thanks! This is going to be a great collaboration.

Thanks to everyone else that sent me samples, they all were really well written, but just not what I was looking for.

Now it's time to start pre-production. So I guess this makes me a producer/director now:-Dum(DBG): LOL!
