camera for digitising

I'm thinking of getting a cheaper camera to use and for digitising the footage, would it make any difference if it's not a three chip like the panasonic for digitising footage from the Panasonic

No, a 3 chip camera doesn't affect reading/writing to tape so you;ll be fine with a less expensive camera.
Limits with less expensive camera is they may not provide the timecode info so if you log and batch capture that could be a problem. In any case see what the return policy is just in case you have problems.

And, as always, if you're looking for a cheap camera, get a Panasonic because the battery and charger will be compatible with your DVX. The GS series won't, but pretty much any other Panasonic will essentially give you a free battery and backup charger.

just one extra thing, will they all play the sound out, not really sure about sound, but is it a higher bit rate or something than in the cheaper cameras, can a cheaper camera play the bit rate tecorded on a higher camera....or am I just confuseing things..thanks for the advice..

i use 2 old VX1000s. one is only charging and rewinding tapes and one does the playerjob on my NLE. i only use the DVX to record stuff off the PC, but mostly it is either DVD or BetaSP master.

just thinking, if I got one, and could aslo use it for back up, might be good, as I had a bit of head mosaic prob recently, what is the cheapest 3 chip panasoni with the 16bit sound and firewire...anyone know

If you're just using it to capture footage from your DVX, you will get all the entire signal - 25Mbs DV25. All the sound, and video as you captured on the DVX. I'd be pretty suprised if a camera transcoded anything between the tape and the firewire out.
