Camera Case for DVX100A

Hi Everyone,

Do you have any recommendations for a larger size carrying case for the DVX100a?

I just bought the Petrol PCCB-1 ( 16 x 7.8 x 9 ) and it turned out to be too small for our needs. However, it has a center (lengthwise) divider which is really nice feature, but makes the other side unusable.

Can anyone recommend a wide enough camera case and larger than the specs above that will be enough for the camera, an AT897 mic, an XLR cable, an AT100 wireless system, and a pair of headphones (Sony MDR-7506)?

Thank you so much.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

I own a Porta Brace CS-DV4. It holds a DVX-100/DVC-80 with AT897 attached. I can also fit a ton of other stuff including my MDR-7506's, cables, batteries, tapes, stick mic, and more. It comes with a cradle for the camera type you specify and a couple small zippered soft pouches for accessories. It is built very rugged and has a padded shoulder strap. I paid around 200 USD from Adorama.

Ryan,

Thanks very much for the link. It definitely looks a hundred times better than the one I bought and addresses most of the issues that I have.

I'll just wait and see if there are any other recommendations, but this, by all means, is a candidate to be ordered.

Thanks so much.

I want to second the Portabrace. I have to say that although a bit expensive, they are the most useful cases I have every run across. I still have some from the 1980s doing all sorts of things.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

I've been eyeing the dv organizer as well... Spoke with portabrace and they said it should fit my needs (I wanted to fit the 100A with mattebox, rods, follow focus, etc.)

It might need some modifications (ie notching), but I think i'll give it a whirl.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

I use the cinebags production bag.. it will fit the camera with mattebox/rods/followfocus and anything else you can through on it.

Its the best bag I have owned, has a rigid carpeted bottom and is top notch, and Camera Assistants drool when I roll up on set with it.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

This is why I hate this message board. People alway end up post kick ass gear, and I have to buy it. BTW, if you buy the production bag in July they send you a free script bag! Just ordered mine!

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

.... only snag for me being it needs to be carry-on friendly >:(

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

Thank you all so much for the great recommendations.

Mr. Land, does CineBags' "Production Bag" have dividers? From the picture it seems like it has internal pouches or pockets (does it?), but there is no mention of any dividers? As the bag is rather large, will the camera be OK in it without dividers (if that is, in fact, the case)?

Thank you.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

I recently purchased the Porta Brace DVX Organizer. Here are a few pics of it. Note that I have my hand holding back the pouch for the shotgun mic...believe me its really there and nice. You can configure the internal layout as you wish. It has pockets on all sides and the front pocket zips down and unfolds as you can see. Plenty of room in this bag for the DVX, mics, cables, batteries, tapes, manuals, headphones, and other equipment. I haven't tried it as carry on, but I've seen bigger bags get on the plane.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

Great pics dat!

It's nice to actually see it in context with the dvx instead of just in a catalog, etc.

Is that the CR3 or CR4 model?

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

Kai...it is the CR4. I have to add that it is a very solid case, not like the pelican but very rigid yet still flexible.

Re: Camera Case for DVX100A

I'm thinking of something along the lines of a carry-on bag with two wheels and a retractable handle. Anything out there made like this for a camera?

Portabrace offers such a creature.

It comes with large bags that velcro in place, there is velcro all around so you can put dividers if you want, Me, I put the camera in and put the camera towel (used to cover/protect camera when its not in use and on tripod) in there as well.. fits snug enough that its safe. Top and bottom are rigid so I have never questioned the safety.

All you that just ordered.. you are gonna be surprised.
