Camera armour/rain slicker

Anyone got experience with the different camera covers/armours around?

Portabrace got two, a Camera Case and Camera armour, don't look like there are very much difference?

What with Petrol or Kata?

Are the rain covers supplied with these covers good enough for shooting outside full working days when its raining a lot? Or should I opt for something like the portabrace stormcoat for the really bad weather?

I've only used Kata/Petrol rain covers before with handheld cameras. I'm starting to favour Porta Brace for a large camera as my Z1 almost died when the Petrol rainslicker started to let the rain trough.

A lot of questions, but I kind of stopped trusting local dealers as each favour the brand the import, so I need some real life input.

I have always preferred the porta brace. The one on my 500 is good but I wouldn't rely on it in semi to heavy rain. It is more for light rain. We use a storm cover for heavier rain. It might be a pain but Better be safe than sorry.

Porta-brace has served me well for over 25 years and the one I have on my 500 is great too. I agree that it's nice to have the included rain cover when showers break out, but for the hurricanes and nasty stuff, I also have a full rain slicker. I tried a Kata on one camera I purchased a couple years ago, but returned to Porta-brace

we use petrol, on our 202's 172 and 500 not too bad but when its raining your on a timelimit, just shot in a storm with the 500 but had an assit with a flexy over top, I reckon 15mins tops in heavy rain with the petrol before things are no longer water proof

That sound awfully familiar....after 4 hours of this;

my old Z1 was as wet as a puddle, and from the nature of how "good" water and electronics go together should be dead but it survived under the leaking petrol slicker.

So I'm kind of headed towards Portabrace, tried both Kata and Petrol for small cameras and never completely satisfied with details and performance.

I have the Kata and have no complaints. I haven't done any marathon rain shoots but their products are well made.

I use the Kata CG12 body armor. Does the job well. It also comes with a rain cover thats not as good shape wise as my Pana RC700 rain cover. But the Pana is less perfect with the body armour on which never comes off my camera. Hmm maybe Ill sell that. Havent used it since I got the body armor.

We have the Kata HD 3 and i've shot full days handheld in driving rain and ocean spray and the camera has been fine. I'm not afraid to take the camera in any weather with that cover.
