Camcorder battery, rec display plugin?

I'm making a film and parts of the film i want to show camcorder footage, however i want all the info like battery remaining and the rec symbol ect to be visible.

Is there a plugin or templates or something, or do i have to create my own from scratch?

Some consumer and prosumer camcorders output the LCD display to their S video and composite output, when you select it in the menu (OSD maybe?)Might be one way to achieve it.

Yeah that might be an idea, however i'd need to manipulate what's displayed, like pretend the battery is running down and maybe the time would need to change too.
