Problem: 1.Can't access MXF files in Media Tools from my external hard drive. 2."Access Denied" to "Avid MediaFiles/MXF" folder that contains all my footage.

How I got to the problem:

1. I put 1 roll of my MXF video and audio files in to my Avid MediaFiles/MXF directory folder on my external hard drive.
-It was viewable in Media Tools
2. I put the rest of my rolls in respective folders in the same directory...video and audio files in to folders.
3. Loading Avid, it says "Access Denied" to the 20 folders I created. It gave me the option to abort, quarantine, ignore. I chose to abort.
4. Avid Support says to quarantine when that happens...So I do.
5. I load Avid. Then go to Media Tool, point to my external hard drive. BLANK
6. I go to my Avid Mediafiles/MXF folder on my external HD, it says "Access denied"
7. I try moving my external HD to my other computer and try to access the folder, and still "Access Denied."

THEREFORE I have OVER 3 HOURS of MXF footage that Avid cannot access and I can't even access it or move the files through Windows. I NEED HELP!! PLEASE!!

are the folders labeled with numbers only, such 1 and 2 ? Are we talking Windows or Mac here? Are you logged on with administrator priviliges (if you're in xP pro ?)

Try to let Avid set up a project...
Make a new hd project with the proper settings on that external disk....
Make a title..... whatever....
Avid will create a folder structure for you.... put in your numbered folders (cut & paste doesn't require time when made on the same disk)....
Try now to import with media tools

I was able to get into the files. I had to open Windows through Safe Mode and change the security settings in order to get into the folder. So I moved the files to a safe place and I'm just going to transfer them to my internal hard drive.
But I'll also try what you said Stranatriboo.

Thanks Guys!
