Call My Agent! TV Series (2015 - 2020) is available on Netflix at the moment in the U.S. - possibly elsewhere, I didn’t search. A French production, with French actors, in French (subtitles available).

I have not been aware of this series before (shows serious gaps in my TV viewing prowess!), and I just watched the first season.

I have some interest in this, insofar as I used to work for one of the three big talent agencies in LA, (back in the distant past!), so it was amusing for me to see the similarities/differences... of course, I don’t know how accurate the depiction is of the agenting world in France, since I know a bit about other countries in this respect, but not France specifically.

In any case, on its merits, I think the show is quite watchable - entertaining, witty, colorful - the acting is quite good, the characters involving, the plot not offensive or clickbaity. Of course, I have not seen all seasons, so it’s possible it deteriorates sharply in other seasons, but the first season is not bad. Is it a masterpiece? No. It’s not The Wire, Breaking Bad, Ozark etc. - but it’s in the “Ted Lasso” territory of “decent” - watching it doesn’t leave you feeling you’ve just wasted your time (at least for me!), so if you’re looking for something to stream that’s not offensive, this is a worthy choice. My view is that watchable stuff is rare and so any time something decent comes along, it’s worth recommending.

I’ll keep watching and edit this post when I’ve seen more, to warn against or recommend watching more seasons. YMMV!

I have now watched all 4 seasons of Call My Agent, and I have to say, it’s held up, except for the last couple of episodes, particularly the last one which became somewhat draggy - same problem as with Fauda, trying to tie up loose ends, it focused on the less interesting and scenes were too long. But otherwise, I truly enjoyed the series and wouldn’t mind seeing them make more seasons.

It seems that season 4 is the last that will be made. There is strong talk of a film. It has been remade in Turkey where the character Andrea Martell is straight! and they are apparently making a Uk version. I can just imagine how **** that is going to be! Me, I'm just going to watch the original once a year. Love it.

Fair enough, though I wouldn’t mind seeing a spinoff. So many of those characters we’d like to see what became of them. Did Camille start her own agency? How did that go? Has Herve’s acting career taken off? And Andrea... you just know she will not be able to keep away from the agenting world, it’s too much in her blood. Has Mathias gone on to bigger and better things, and did he work in Camille’s agency? Did Arlette get a new dog? How’s Gabriel doing at StarMedia? How’s that horrible woman who destroyed ASK, did she get her comeuppance? And Janowski, you know the movie world bug has gotten into him and he’s gonna do something there too :)

All in all, I think there’s a rich mine there, but remakes... I’m not sure about. The Turkish thing, I get it that it’s taboo in their culture, but really, Andrea being a lesbian is such a part of her character that making her straight just is a travesty. And no offence to the Brits, but I have grave fears that they’ll just go for cheap laughs and poor character consistency... I’ll try to remain optimistic, but it’s hard to recreate that chemistry among so many characters. Of course, it’s also fine to just make a different show. Sometimes things work out. The U.S. The Office version was respectable, just different from the British version. So I do have my fears, but I’m wishing them the best. And I tell you what... I bet the U.S. version centered around the agenting world here could be a very strong series - very different, and I would not propose to do the same as the French original, different charactes, situations and premise, but still could be super interesting.

But yeah, that series was a treat. Maybe it’s not completely impossible that they’ll continue :) one can hope, LOL!
