FS7: Calibrating Sony FS7 M2 --and-- Matching to Sony FS7 M1 - SLOG3

I'm going to work with a colleague to get my FS7M2 looking the way I want it to, making some scene files, etc. I typically shoot S-Gamut3.Cine/SLog3.

I know that there will be cases where I'll rent an additional FS7 for a two-camera shoot. It may or may not be a M2 version. My colleague has an M1.

How would you approach this so you had what you needed moving forward? Is it just a matter of exposing the same on both cameras and applying the same LUT and/or applying the same grade in post?

Given that I'm shooting SLOG3 is there even much of an issue of the two cameras matching up provided that I shoot with the same codecs, frame rates, etc?

Thanks!

Tim

AKAIK the only differences between the cameras are ergonomic, but I would test the ND systems against each other to see how the color compares.

If you get any color shift, it will be because one uses ND filters, the other has variable ND. Your options here to match best is to not use internal ND from either camera,. and use the same ND filter brand on each FSE7. I learned this lesson the hard way on two camera shoot before.

I'd imagine they'd look identical set up the same with the same lenses, except maybe the variable ND is a "variable" - nice pun, ha!

The thing I discovered after researching the purchase of a second FS7 is I don't believe you can read an "ALL FILE" from an SD card and match the settings. FS72 uses a different file structure or something. So, I decided a used FS7 Mk 1 was for me.

But I think the fs7 MK2 doesnt have the traditional ND filters.. just the one piece of glass that serves for clear to all other levels..

I just looked in the user's manual and you are right, the technology behind Variable and Preset modes is basically the same. No traditional ND's, I did not know that.
