GH4 Cages for GH5

Interesting. We were going to go with the Zacuto Cage. Maybe we should hold off?

One thing we're not keen on, is the VCT ecosystem, as everything of ours is either Arri or Manfrotto based.

But the Zacuto GH5 Cage looks to be the best dedicated GH5 cage on the market at the moment. At least for those with Speed Boosters.

They are letting me keep it until they send a replacemnt at least, used it yesterday on a shoot with XLR unit, mic, LED light, and speedbooster attached and it felt good in my hands.

I bought the Lockcircle cage...tried to post photos here, but can't figure out the way to do it...its one of the best pieces of machining i've seen...my 3rd cage for a camera and completely in a league of it's own, especially compared to my previous cages...the cage fits so precisely, it has to be assembled around the camera, with the camera strap buckles removed...the highlights, aside from the sublime workmanship, is the Multiport (locks all ports on the HDMI side of camera, the Focal plane pin to measure from, that can screw into 2 different places on the camera, (an equally important accessory for me in the cage), and lastly the fact that the front of the cage completely wraps the GH5, making the mount and front magnesium face rigid enough to hang much larger lenses without support, than I would have considered without the cage. This was a big factor in my consideration as lens supports always gets in the way of a follow focus.

Bought the SmallRig cage when it was still a ‘Pre-Order’, & it’s worked well enough, but it’s not the most comfortable to handhold, & often took it off when it wasn’t needed, so ordered Movcam’s in hope that it can just stay on all/most the time.

We just received our Zacuto GH5 Cage, and interestingly, it didn't even come with the baseplate required to lock it into the Rods Support Base! Plus, one of the screws holding the cage together, on the underside of the cage, is missing. Great job.

Also, the Zacuto Metabones Speed Booster Support Adapter is NOT compatible with the Metabones CINE Speed Booster, which is really f**king annoying, as this was one of the reasons we decided to invest in Zacuto's GH5 Cage as opposed to anyone else's.

So, Zacuto, if you're reading, please sort this out ASAP!

I decided to just send it back to B&H, my Varavon Zeus cage will do for now, it is so much easier to remove the camera from it when I need to use it on my gimbal. Once you put the GH5 in the Zacuto cage it is pretty much not coming back out unless you fumble around with it for a few minuets while trying not to lose one of the 3 screws.

I have the Zacuto cage. None of those issues. Very happy with it. I had the smallrig before the Zacuto arrived at interim. No comparison.

If Zacuto made a Support Adapter for the CINE Speed Booster, we would have kept ours, as it's a beautifully thought out cage. But unfortunately, the CINE Speed Booster incompatibility is a deal breaker, so we'll be sending it back.

So, unless Zacuto release a Supper Adapter for the CINE Speed Booster soon -- as in the next few weeks -- we'll be forced to go with another manufacturer, which we didn't want to have to do.

I cancelled my RMA with Zacuto since I sent it back to B&H but Zacuto sent me another cage anyways so I need to call them and see if that was a mistake, maybe I will get a free cage?

bought movcam cage ..poor design in my opin. Using the right side is not possible for cold shot mount as xlr inputs block it.. . makes it pointless...should have used the other side.

If you bought the Movcam kit it includes an extender that attaches to the front of the cage this allows you to use the supplied handle that has a cold shoe mount and the Panasonic audio adaptor at the same time.
