GH2 Cage thread?

Could you please be so kind as to post a photo? I am thinking of ordering the Shrigg Jig for my GH2 but sometimes have gigs shooting with 7D or 5D so it would be handy to have the larger one. Of course it all depends how the GH2 sits in it as its my primary personal camera.

I'm thinking the extra width might help the cage to act like handles when holding it.

Hi - you can see from these pics that there is plenty of space. At the moment I'm just fiddling around with it, seeing what I need to do. I'll drill a couple of holes and add the handles properly, plus one or two other bits and pieces.

That's the good thing about the Shrigg - it's cheap, and you can adapt it easily.

I'll probably take it comletely to bits and take off a couple of sharp edges, then spray it up again and add some rubber protection here and there.

Thanks for the pics.

You're welcome.

I forgot to say, re. your point about using the sides as handles, yes you could easily do that (if you didn't have other junk attached to them like me)

In that case, I'd put some foam tubing (bike handlebar grip) over the vertical risers to make them more comfortable.

One other point - without the extra width afforded by the XL cage I'm not entirely sure how you'd get to operate the camera conrols - some of the cages curretnly in vogue are such a tight fit for the camera that I don't see how you'd get your paws in to press any buttons :cheesy:

Also (yes that's two points ;) ) I don't really see the point of spending a lot of money on a cage that is custom made for one camera - judging by the current price reductions, the GH2 is on its way out, and the GH3 is rumoured to be rather like the Nex-7. Are you supposed to chuck your expensive ReWo cage away and buy another one when models change? You wouldn't buy a GH2 specific tripod, or follow focus - so why a GH2 specific cage? (unless they're very cheap)

I use the standard CPM FilmTools cage. It's not bad at all for lightweight work, but I load the *@#& out of it with monitors and a top handle to carry a 20-pound-plus rig. I think it's a good cage solution for DSLRs.

Sorry for the amateur photos :)

after a call to Tim I was told my cage was in hold in fed ex office (wrong address) so I am sure now Tim is a nice Guy they just really need to hire a secretary for this kind of "client relationship" thing, I was afraid I got rip off...Thank God I didn't< now I am going to pick up my Cage at fed ex office and post some photos later...Yes! :)

My Shrigg cage has arrived from Tim Ovel - who is, incidentally, one of the nicest people with whom you could wish to deal.I'd advise anyone thinking of the Shrigg for the GH1/2 to go for the 'XL' version (same price) The extra height allows for the fitting of a QR assembly inside the cage (Manfotto 323, in my case) and is certainly not too big for the camera, imo.I'm delighted with mine - so thanks to Shrigg, and also to Tim Ovel of Indiesystems.
