C70: C70 not holding date & time after Canon servicing.

I've left it plugged in for a day with and without a battery installed. As soon as I unplug and swap batteries, I lose the date time. Did canon eff the internal battery up?

Yikes. Sounds like it! I would contact them again and demand a free repair with paid shipping.

Does it also reset all of your user settings (custom menus, shortcut buttons, etc.)?

Sounds like it needs a new internal lithium coin battery. It’s inaccessible, so you’ll need to send it back if having the correct time is essential.

Weird thing is I don't seem to be losing any settings.
Could be anything. Some devices use capacitors to hold a charge for memory settings. They could have damaged a component when soldiering. Basically unknowable.

For example my Zoom H1 forgets the time and it uses a capacitor. Even on such a simple device it would be beyond me to find out where it is and soldier a replacement without damaging it.

So I DID leave it sitting on the shelf without a battery installed for a few weeks after receiving it back from Canon. And who knows how long it was sitting without a battery when I sent it in.

But now, no matter how many days I leave a battery installed, or I leave it plugged into mains AC power, or both, if I take the battery off for more than like a 2 Mississippi, the date and time needs to be reset.

I don't really have time to be without it right now, and who knows how many hundreds of $$ it will take to ship it back. And I'd say "who cares," but each time the date gets wiped, it could screw up my file management. I mainly shoot hevc 265, and the camera puts the files in folders based on the date and time. So frustrating.

If you're not using timecode it will be fine. I only use time for legal work where it's required. I'd still contact the repair company to let them know the issue exists so you've documented it. Most repair shops you have to pay for shipping each way around $100+
