C100: C100 and ninja 2 splitting files

Has anybody anywhere tried the Odyssey 7 or 7Q with the C100 yet?

I'm strongly considering the 7 for my C100 with its lower price.

since i turned off the hdmi timecode from the C100 and rec command, it seems to work fine. I think there is a conflict in the communication of the timecode from the camera to the ninja. At least this is what I hope now...

I don't think this is a cable issue.

Normally I'd agree with you but I can't help but think the cable plays some part in the issue at hand. I have never turned off the HDMI REC command or timecode and the problem completely resolved itself with a different cable. Perhaps there is an issue with the HDMI REC command/timecode that has issues with certain cables and not others? Regardless I am glad it's working better but I wouldn't rule out the cable playing a part in it.

I suppose I could break out the cables that I have issues with and try recording for long periods of time with the HDMI REC command/timecode turned off and see if it still has issues. In all honestly I rely on this to send record commands as I am running around hand-held quite a bit for my work.

Well, on my 3 test, the recording went wrong and stopped at 15min or so... I am a little tired of this :)

icile22, which cable are you using?

Just bought a SSD drive 500Go Samsung. Runing test now...

I was afraid you'd ask that! I honestly don't know. I work at a company that deals with rentals of all types of TVs and media players so I have all kind of cables laying around, with no labels. What I can verify is that the test failed with 2 Rocketfish cables I bought that are low profile and thin with small ends. I was hoping to use this as it is small and stealthy and doesn't muck up my rig too much.

Also, I drive 45 minutes to an Apple Store and bought the office APple HDMI cable that is also very low profile because many on here reported no issues. But it to would stop randomly. I'll see if I can check the make of my good cable but I think it might be pointless as it is a generic cable I am sure.

I am using an SSD also. Haven't used a hard drive in over 18 months in my Samurai either.

Thanks for the info icile22,

I have been doing tests with the SSD ( samsung evo 840 500Go). So far, it's a huge improivement, no splitting. Except once when the ninja just stop. I left the camera recording on the shelve, nothing was moving and after 6min the ninja lost the pulldown sync and stop recording with a grey menu. I had to move my hand in front of the lens to resync.

So much better with a SSDso far but still, all this is not making me very confident about shooting with the ninja :-/

EDIT: still getting file split from the ninja even with the best SSD I found...

Krick,
I had the same issue. When the video would stop, I found the 3:2 pulldown sync had been lost also. Somehow the cadence had been broken and the ninja needed to be re-synced. I have been running on the assumption that whatever cables I had been using would inherently cause occasional glitches in the data stream. Not a big deal with a TV or monitor but if it messed with the timecode or pulldown cadence it could cause the Ninja to stop recording possibly.

I feel bad for what you are going through. I was pulling my hair out too, but after days of aiming my camera at a wall and recording hours and hours of useless footage, I found that one cable that I know works for me. Since then I kind of put all of this behind me and moved on. However if I lose this cable or it goes bad, I might be right back where you are.

Again, I am not saying that it is your cable, only that in my case, finding the right cable alleviated my problems.....at least for the last 3.5 months.

Good Luck.

This has put me right off spending nearly 600 pounds on his bit of kit...I will look at other options.

got a shoot today with 5 times an hour long interview, straight to the ninja. And the unit performed well. Not sure what to think about this device...
