Bye bye Karma GoPro. You had no chance.

That's fair, though the rated distance is 80 meters in wireless mode, which isn't bad for simple jobs.

Definitely take any manufacturers figures for things like that with a grain of salt. Early testers are reporting basically enough distance to fly indoors in a smaller room and outdoors, just 10'-20'. But like anything else wireless, conditions, line of sight, other devices operating in the same spectrum all are contributing factors. Wireless mics can have static or hits at 10' away or operate 300' away cleanly, all depending on the situation.

So if you fly close to that limit or exceed it or if there is enough interference when you are flying without the controller, will the Mavic Pro flyaway?

When I was flying the first DJI Phantom, it had suddenly plunged from the sky like a missile. Later I realised that it was some software quirk of DJI. It had shaken me up to the core.

OK, so who has ordered one?

I have.
I did it yesterday and its the first thing I have ever preordered...there is a 14 days return policy (not usual for Greek stores) which makes me feel more comfortable, but anyway I believe Im going to love that little baby :-)

I have purposely NOT ordered yet, I am too wary of being a test dummy for corporations who should have worked out the bugs prior to mass worldwide release. I am going to let all of you be my guinea pigs to figure out what's wrong with it ;-) Probably order in January, if any will be available by then?

That goes double for DJI products. They're usually pretty buggy out of the gate.

Joining the thread late, so this is mostly a response to the OP. I have a 3DR Solo and don't need to get anything new for the time being but love the rate of innovation in the drone space.

Karma is an incredibly powerful system with the GoPro5. For the cost of a drone, you now have a GoPro5 that is truly a sea, air and land action camera.

Mavic is also incredible and very portable, but is only the air part of that equation.

Just depends on what you're after. The Karma + GoPro5 seems like the ultimate drone system that does it all and will be super popular with consumers maybe. Mavic (and future folding drones like it) probably represents a new standard for our industry of a drone you can always have with you, particularly when traveling. Just tuck it into the corner of a hard case you're already traveling with. Impressive stuff all around.

There's nothing worse than be hindered by physical injuries and trying to shoot. My right arm went bust in the beginning of this year and I was very grumpy trying to shoot.
