Buying the right Tripods for DVX 100a?

I bought my DVX100a over a year ago and haven't used in nearly as much as I wanted to. I am trying to shoot more and am tired of having it just hand held. I know I need at the very least a tripod.

Could anyone recommend good budget buys? If anyone has any suggestions for further accessories I would greatly appreciate it. I have seen a "slider" mentioned in other threads; just how useful/necessary are they?

I am currently just a movie hound who writes and would one day like to shoot some of my own original work but right now I am strictly shooting around the house and playing with such basics as natural lighting and shadow. Still very primitive. To be honest, reading these boards seem very daunting without having a rudimentary know-how to the technical side of things.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What's your budget for the tripod ? Ask 100 people and you will get 100 different suggestions. I've just bought a DVX100B a month ago too and here are my suggestions for you:

- OEM Panasonic batteries (at least two, depending where you shoot)
- Shotgun Mic (within budget, as they vary in price range)
- Any tripod that holds at least 10 lbs. (I prefer carbon legs, lighter to carry around)
- Fluid head (Manfrotto 501, 501HDV, 503HDV, Davis & Sons FM18, etc.)
- Professional headphones (Sony MDR-7506)
- Backpack (Kata R-102, Kata HB-205) to carry camera
- Accessories such as lens cloth, extra mini-DV tapes, a knife, pen, gaffe's tape, garbage bag (in case it rains), etc.
- Barry Green DVX book
