Need youre help again guys!!!!!!! PC OR MAC?????

and what kind of pc or mac......(need to know if the 24p works on all computers?) ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

The right computer is the one you know how to use that will do the things you want it to do while not costing more then you can afford.

For me, that's a Tandy TRS-80...the best editing platform ever created IMHO.

But my latest theory is that people who ask what camera or what computer to get already have a good idea what to get, but they find it difficult to swallow the purchase price without seeking some kind of consensus. Problem being that there is no consensus.

Which one would you rather have?

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

i have worked with both...but i dont know which would be better for editing and finishing projects... ??? ??? ??? ??? ???

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

You will get a wide variety of responses to this. It's kind of like asking "which religion should I join"?

The answer should be: which programs do you prefer? If you prefer FCP, get a Mac, as it only runs on the Mac. If you prefer Vegas or Premiere Pro, get the PC, as they only run on the PC.

If you want to use something like Graeme Nattress' film effects filters, they're only available on the Mac.

If you want to use tools like Serious Magic's DV Rack, that's only available on the PC.

So pick your tools, and that will likely help you choose which platform to go with.

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

ok!!i'm very honored that you responded!!! ;D ;D what will you prefer!!!mac or pc.....remember i never worked with any of this programs...this will be my first time, so i will trust anything that you recomend!!

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

If its possible, maybe you should try and find somewhere you could try a few of the NLE's out. I guess that way you could decide which feels more natural to you. I mean, if someone just gives you s short introduction and a little footgae, you could screw around with it and I think it would be a great help in deciding.

Me, I already had a decent PC when I got into video (not so long ago) so my main choices were Vegas and Premiere Pro. Vegas just felt more intuitive and easier to do the stuff I wanted, so I chose that.

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

If you're a first timer, completely first time editor...go with vegas or final cut.

Vegas is very easy to learn, but its harder to learn if you already edit with another software. FInal cut is pretty easy to learn, not as easy as vegas, but the Mac hardware and OS are easier to learn then PC.

If you've got a good PC right now, just go with a PC solution...download a trial of them all and see what you like. If you've got a good Mac right now...get yourself some final cut pro (if you need 24p) or a copy of final cut express (if you're cool with regular pal/ntsc DV).

Personally, I edit using Buddha...JC and Mohammad were just too unintuitive.

Nice ;D

*Insert joke about how it doesn't matter what NLE you use as long as you're sincere.*

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

I'm not sure I would recommend Vegas to a new user. It's good software - don't get me wrong - but it will make changing to any other software rather difficult. That any the fact that Vegas doesn't have nested timelines! :o

I'm not sure how that was overlooked...

Anyway, it really is all about what software you are comfortable with. I've seen crap from high end editing software and great results from low end software.

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

i prefer macs, but i have a pc workstation as the powermac is just too expensive. maybe in a year I'll upgrade to a dual proc. g5 mac, but for now its a pc.

macs just seem easier and efficient, go to an apple store and you'll see, you'll most likely love the macs cause they're just so clean and fast, but then again, its a lot of money.

I consider it the Rolls Royce of computers, limited membership (to whoever can afford it) but you get good service, quality computers, and a controlled hardware selection.

I'll just stick with my g4 powerbook for now

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

lol what else can you do? ::) ..these threads stress me out.. its like a big horse fly that wont leave you alone.

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

What about Linux?   8)

Man, I don't even want to touch this subject. I get stressed out when I'm asked "Paper or Plastic?"

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

Ola Juan, que tal?

Nice to see some more Latin people on the boards. Do you live in Buenos Aires? If so post your work! It's a beautiful city... hehehe

Now for the Mac X PC, I'll be honest. You don't need a Mac, and we all know how darn expensive they get over here. (If you think they are expensive in the US... You should see our rates...)

Now, I edit on a Dual G4 1.4 and just love it. It was the best thing I ever could have purchased, it gave me a nice profit from this year and a half I've had it, and made me possible to save some money to buy my DVX. I won't say I would not have done it without it using Vegas, but I have to say I just love FCP (apple's exclusive editing program). All I can tell you, is that if you have no idea on wich you prefer, don't buy any. Try using vegas and FCP and see wich one you'll rather have. I'm pretty sold for FCP, but many great things were done in alternate plataforms, you'll be able to come up with an answer on your own.

Cheers!

And while you're waiting to render you can pop open Zork and clear a few levels. I'm familiar with THAT workflow . . .

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

I personally think that all videographers should be using a Mac; I myself use the Power Mac G5 2 ghz. I prefer Avid Xpress Pro but currently using FCP until I get it on this new computer. I am coming from a PC background and I must say that I am very pleased with what Mac are doing with their equipment. I suggest that you try out both before jumping to see which is more suitible to your liking.
Here is a list if you should decide to go with Mac:
A. Avid Xpress Pro 4
b. Motion
c. DVD studio pro
that is a winning combination

Actually, I have to load Tandy Cut Pro from a cassette tape. I only have one tape player, so I'm currently unable to multitask.

I do have my eye on a swell 8" read/write floppy drive...but I'm thinking about ditching the whole system for a Tandy 102 portable. I think editing on 7-bit software is the wave of the future...

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

I have it on a cartridge. The new 128K machines really speed up render times!

Re: Buying my new computer!PC or Mac?

Come on, NOBODY needs more than a TRS-80 with 32K. Anything more is just a status symbol.
