Buying H4n from US? (for use in Australia)

I was looking to purchase a Zoom H4n but, when researching prices from different stores both Australian an international, I found it would be so much cheaper to buy from America (as is usually the case with anything electronic/musical).

Thing is, I don't really know the issues that could come with importing audio gear from the US. The main one I can see is that I'd probably need some sort of AC power converter but I don't really know anything about this kind of thing. Are there other problems involved? Can anyone help me out as to what I'd need to buy/consider before purchasing from the US?

Hi Fluke, you've got to cost it out. I keep an almost full cart at BnH and wait for the Oz dollar to get around the 92-95 rate. If you order anything over $A1000 then you pay 10% Oz customs. I use USP 3-5day and order on a USThursday so it gets here Wed the following week. Hopefully USP here are awake at that time, never get anything delivered on a Monday or a Friday.

Dick Smith and other Oz stores sell a 110>240V transformer. Other cons, some gear is not sold by USdealers outside the US to protect dealers here. Warranty I live without, figure anything under $500 isn't worth the trouble, but some gear has worldwide warranty and can be fixed by agents here.
Things I don't buy OS, vidcameras, lens filters and extra batteries. HTH Cheers.

Thanks for the advice!

My girlfriend actually works at Dick Smith, which could prove convenient. Since the total package will come to well under AU$1000 I should be able to avoid customs tax and GST. I agree about the warranty, too.

If I can find a store in the US that will ship here with a reasonable freight charge, I think I'll go for it.

Thanks again.
