Buying an HVX200

As I look around at prices for this camera I found a place that seems fairly reputable (even though their verbal and customer service skills are very poor). The camera is VERY cheap. They are Digital Corp in Hollywood Florida.

Has anyone dealt with these people before? They do a ton of business on eBay and have over 98% approval rate. For 3,548 Im having a hard time looking elsewhere.

That price is well below dealer cost (and that even includes a bunch of useless accessories), and if you Google the company, you won't find very encouraging information. You should also check ResellerRatings.com, but as I'm writing this, the site is not responding.

Please. Buy it. All the rest of us are mere chumps for paying more. And wow, that Vidpro tripod they include. Wish I had one of those to replace my Sachtler.

We all look forward to hearing from you once you receive a camera with USA warranty for that amazing price. They obviously must follow the business principles of my grandfather who once said "Lose a little bit on each sale but make it up in the volume." Wish every company were like that-- selling for 25-30% under dealer cost-- and on the primary source where all working professionals buy their gear-- eBay.

Get real.

I'd be very skeptical of what I'd be getting, i.e. is it an NTSC or PAL model? How could anyone offer a fully warranted camera at such a low price? Did it fall off the proverbial truck? And what is it about trucks that so many things keep falling off them? Are trucks that poorly made? Or do they somehow counteract gravity? (That's just for a giggle...no sarcasm intended).

Remember the old adage: by and large, you get what you pay for.

Good luck, whatever your decision.

You will have a Gray Market camera with a Panasonic warranty in some other country. You will not qualify for the latest promo. And certainly when it comes time to ask Panasonic USA for help, there will be a point that they will not be able to help you as the camera did not come through them. So find an authorized vendor and save yourself the future hassle.

Best,

Jan

Dan, ShopCartUSA seems to be designed specifically to promote online stores that have the absolute worst reputation elsewhere. If you compare the store ratings there and on ResellerRatings.com, you'll find that the ratings are pretty much reversed. On ShopCartUSA, CCI Camera City and Best Price Cameras for instance have a five-star rating.

Ned was using irony, not sarcasm.

I really think it falls more into the sarcasm category although I was debating between the two as well as “smart ass remark” but sarcasm won out.

In the hopes to “Get Real” like nsoltz says, I decided to by one of the expensive ones advertised so as to get the best deal and appear very “professional.” That was the one for 7,000 Euro (I live in Europe), that’s about $9,550. (Sarcasm, Irony or Smart Ass Remark?)

Actually I did buy from Digital Corp while I was in the States and it looks like it has a Canadian warranty. Since I’m bringing it back to Europe with me the US warranty wouldn’t do me much good anyway. They delivered everything as promised and overnight too. Still not very good phone skills but it looks like I saved over $6,000… that’ll buy a lot of P2 cards.

Thanks to those who sincerely answered my question.

P.S. nsoltz, my mother loved the little tripod. It’ll be perfect for her digital still camera.
