My company have a hvx200 camera but we want to expand the video production and want to invest in a better system ,changeable lenses, larger sensor, shorter DOP better light sensitivity etc. I have no problem to learn a new camera, and I have shoot with canon 5d mkii (with magic lantern), 7d, nikon d5100, Panasonic af101, red one and sony pwm-f3l.

I making interviews and small commercial films.

I need to record audio with the camera and monitor, my workflow don't allow external syncing because I have no time.

I want to invest in some system that I can grow with.

I don't have a budget but maybe start with a few accessories and expand later.

Here is the system that I have checked:
Canon 5d mk ii with magic lantern (replaced soon?)
canon 600d with magic lantern
Nikon d800
Panasonic af101
sony pwm-f3l (maybe to expensive star cost)

Any more suggestion and thoughts?

This forum is fine, but not a lot of people visit it.

You could try the HDSLR General forum here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?190-HDSLR-General-Other

Or the Panasonic AF-100 forum here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?213-AF100

Or the Sony F3 Forum here: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/forumdisplay.php?219-Sony-F3

The problem is that you will get different answers in all 3 places!

Personally, if I were in your position, I would get a camera that is not on your list - the Sony FS100E (if you're in Europe - FS100U, if you're in the US). Interchangeable lenses, large Super 35mm sensor, shallow DoF, excellent low light sensitivity, and built-in professional sound with a headphone jack and XLR mic connectors instead of flimsy 3.5mm jacks. A lot less expensive than the F3 or a RED.

Good luck,

Bill

The only realistic solution is the AF101 if you ask me.<br><br>The FS100 is a great camera but it isn't exactly built with ergonomics in mind, which is a primary concern in news/documentary shooting.

Will - There are no really good ENG/Doc cameras on his list (power zoom with a rocker, bulletproof autofocus).

But he said "interviews and small commercial films" - not "news/documentary shooting". And he wanted "better light sensitivity", where the FS100 beats the AF100 pretty handily (see part 2 of Philip Bloom's Christmas shootout).

I'm a GH2 guy, so I'm not prejudiced against either micro 4/3 sensors or against Panasonic (all of my cameras happen to be Panasonics) - but with jonas' list of requirements, the FS100 seems to be the best fit.

Cheers,

Bill

EDIT: I think there may be some confusion with the title of the thread versus the title of the OP's post - the thread title is "Buy news camera system" - while the post title is "Buy new camera system". I may be overreaching here, but I am guessing that he meant the latter, not the former :)

Sony is giving the NEX-FS100 a firmware upgrade in a few weeks.

They also have a roadmap for expanding their line of NEX lenses and have released 4 new NEX cameras in the past year (NEX-C3 in June of 2011, and the 5N, 7 and VG20 in August 2011).

It seems to me that Sony is committed both to the NEX-FS100 and to the NEX system as a whole.

The technologies on the horizon that might make the current generation of cameras obsolete - 3D and 4K, for example, are years away and not worth waiting for. Even Hollywood has not fully adopted them yet.

In my view, it is better to buy the almost-perfect camera now and use it to make enough money to buy the perfect camera later.

Good luck,

Bill
