I'm shooting a feature and I was planning on renting a dvx100a, but I have the opportunity to buy a dvx100 for $2000. Is the difference between the two that great and should I go with the 100a, or buy the 100?

Thanks!

The price I can get the camera for is $2400 actually..

Thanks for the feedback..

There are some nice adjustments, but for the price, a DVX100 seems a very good deal. If the heads are decent, I would be inclined of going with it. Check the differences between the two models at www.adamwilt.com

Awesome! Thanks for the link, that's exactly the info I needed.

Also, the camera was used for ~100 hours in the studio and includes a panasonic certified testing report that shows that the camera and heads have no problems.

Is the cerfification a good metric to judge the head quality?

Thanks again!

given the slight differencs between a 100 and a 100a i would definitely rather OWN than rent.

the better you know the camera the better the stuff you will shoot.

I agree. Especially when you're starting out, owning a camera is a must. You'll find that you can waste a lot of money learning to use a camera if you rent (and you might not be happy with the footage until you get used to shooting with a particular cam).

Buy and you'll own. Not much of a difference.
