Butterfly/Overhead... Which One?

As stated in other threads, I am gearing up for a negative-budget 'bottom-feeder-type' indie feature involving 12 crew people, no permits, and a smallish equipment package that includes an HMI, some Kinos and assorted tungsten fixtures from 2K on down.

So, my question is: If I where to only get one Overhead/Butterfly set, which size should I choose? 6x6? 8x8? 12x12?

I'm looking for the solution that will be the most versatile and useful.

P.S. Yes, this is an HVX feature.

i would recommend a 6x6. That way you could use it indoors and outdoors too. 8x8 & 12x12 can be difficult to use indoors in small locations.

think of it in terms of stops.

6x6 is fine for indoors or a 'small' set up outside. go up a stop (double the size, 12x12 ) for outside. Also think of crew size: it takes horses to make a 12x work outside safely. How many people do you have to set it up and position it and safety it off? Thinking about moving multiple sand bags) . Personally, I 'd have both a 6 xand a 12x, not either or.

The difference in cost between a 6x6 frame/stand and all the fabrics you might want and a similarly equipped 12x12 is considerable. I would own a 6x6 and rent the 12x12 when needed.
