Busted-up LCD!!!!!!!!!!!!

*Deep breath* So, I'm uploading footage into FCP this evening, cables streaming out of the back of the camera (which was on my desk)... headphones, power adapter, firewire, etc... I get up to make a phone call, disentangling myself from the cables, but the headphone cord is somehow wrapped around my leg, and is thin enough that I don't see it. I take a step. Crash goes the DVX. World goes into full Hitchcock vertigo mode, I scream "OH %$!@&! NO!!!!!, etc.

Anyways. After several minutes of carefully examining the camera, it seems for the most part unharmed. Records fine, no odd noises or malfuntioning features, everything's clicking and humming and taping just like it should. Except the LCD. It looks like there's been an explosion at some kind of digital paint factory, and there are several cracks across it. It opens and closes fine. There's still power running to it (seeing as it's illuminated). From what I can tell it's just the surface of the screen itself that's taken all the damage.

Does anyone have any idea how much something like this would cost to have repaired??? I'm in the middle of a semester at college, one film project completed for class, but with two more still to go before winter break. I might not be able to send it to a shop until then (and depending on how much it costs to fix, it may be later than that before I can even afford to). I'm still in full freak-out mode here, so if anyone has any experience with this kind of thing, let me know what I can expect.

AAAAAAAAIIIIIGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!

*another deep breath*

Whole LCD display ~500.00+labour , can u see the light from it ? may be only the LCD panel
need to be replace (~250.00+labour). OH please don"t fall down ! are u still there?
please take a deep breath , take it slow , thats it , every thing is fine ( i take a big deep
breath ) ....................... sorry !

Hey, at least everything else still works. You can use your viewfinder until you find the time/cash to get it fixed.

Y'know what, I think it may just be the panel that needs replacing, not the whole display... it's certainly just as bright as it was before, so I don't think there's a problem in terms of it getting power or a signal. The pixels are just blasted in a shattered pattern. It's be kinda cool looking it it wasn't on my camera. :-)

And yeah, thankfully it's still just as functional. And Taichili- where'd you get the price quotes?

Since the camera fell with lots-o-wires attached, perhaps you mostly just use the LCD display when editing? If so, couldn't you just plug in a tee vee with a RCA input to the composite out on the camera? At least for now ...

just a thought.
