Busted By Jarred , shooting for 2nd Unit

Elvis

Veteran
So there I was getting ready to shoot 7 time Emmy award winner Gearge Spiro Dibie, ASC. Past president of the A.S.C. basically a T.V. legend.

In walks Jarred Land!!! What do I have in my hands not my trusty DVX100, or a HVX200 NOooooo. I'm holding a JVC GY-100 H.D. I felt like I was 2 timing my DVX for gosh sakes.

Here I am with this H.D. camera that I have never worked with before on my shoulder and walking backwards with another shooter guiding me. With Jarred watching the whole time. No pressure here. I finish the scene and look up. Jarred is gone! Was he really there or was it just my guilty conscience? I'm not really sure.

Just so you know the camera was the producers. I was filming the premiere episode of 2nd Unit .You can read about it here
www.dvx-2ndunit.com Click on current episode than crew for more info.
Just so you know working with the people at 2nd Unit was a wonderful experience. Not perfect, I'm a Carb watcher
so donuts for breakfast won't work for me. Other than that it was great. The Premiere episode will be sometime tomorrow June 21st on the website so check it out !

So if you get a chance to work with them, do it. The founder Jonathan Ames is a DVXuser member. He and the rest of the team are great people to work with.

Just thought I would share,
Scott C. a.k.a. Elvis

How was George? He's one of my favorite people in hollywood :) He's the first guy
that 'got it' when I said I went out to LA 70 years too late.

Uh oh.. You know what's coming...

I wish I'd known you we're going to see George! He was instrumental in my getting into the business way back when he ran multi-camera film for Warner's.

George was so great. He came in and introduced himself to everyone on set! The man knows his lighting like crazy. Paolo brought scenes of "Naked Lunch" I belive and George put every light in place and explained the shot. Frame by frame. All I can say he is amazing! Wait tell you her him speak on the website and tell it like it is!

Hey Mikko when I was walking backwards all I was thinking about was you. Wishing you were here filming it with your new steadicam. It was great meeting you at N.A.B.

I knew that when I offered you the opportunity to work the show, Scott. With all false modesty aside and all due respect, I admire your work and I want the people to know we're equipment agnostic at www.2nd-unit.com. I bought the 6 JVC's for the company not because I and the team could tell the difference between the cameras raw output out of the box on screen but because it had interchangable lenses and 4:2:2 out the box plus 720p. P2 workflow cards and fixed lens with 1080i. IMHO, the cards aren't ready for prime time yet. But they will be and they are the standard bearers no doubt.

As you know, we had a full crew on set Saturday from talent to makeup to sound to you name it and I wanted a 2nd Cam who knew his way around a camera irrespective of his preference. Making the jump from from Panny to JVC is a daunting deal for most but not Scott. Being equipment agnostic is an asset to 2nd Unit because we take no money from anyone and just tell it like it is. I'm footing the bill for it all. I want honest opinions as to the experience the crew has on set and Scott is The Man here so I know you're kidding with "You're banned" but if you're not, Scot will always have a home at Blue Line Cinema or Hawkfeather Productions. The guy is a class act and I value his opinion

We had 17 apps to work the show for camera alone so picking Scot, I expect your honest opinion... and I got it

I'll let you all know when th next shoot is. It'll have George finishing up with Rob Kositcheck in there as well. After that we have Rodney Charters on the line so I'll be looking for shooters. Anyone interested??? in addition to Scott that is because I plan on keeping him on if you'll agree to it of cource, Scott. You'll meet people you'd probably never, ever meet much less have the hance to work with. Whadda y say?

And , I have a new Stearicam on the way. Archer SE. The rep was at AbelCine today to do a demo of the Flyer but it was too light for the JVC 100HD w/ battery and Chrosziel so we're goping w/ the Archer. Only the best for my crew.

Like I said before Jonathan "You da man" Your my Ron Howard and hopefully I'm your Tom. Thanks again for the break.
Scott C.

I belive the Archer is what Mikko bought. It is a wonderful system and perfect for the J.V.C.GY-100 H.P. I own a Magiqcam but it is to light for the J.V.C.

Congrats! You will love the Archer (Yes that's what I have), and you even get the SE kit, with the tiltstage, nice... :envy:

- Mikko ... is available for hire, with a DVXuser discount, contact info below.

Mikko, nope I wasn't kidding. I was thinking this shot would be better with a Steadicam guy doing it. Your the only steadicam guy I know. We met at N.A.B. Plus you were at the DVX party till the end I might add. Party on Garth!

Jarred, thanks for the vote of confidence.

Briceman!!! Sorry for the delayed response. I'm on vacation. It is a Internet T.V. show. It is free now but in a few months it will be by subscription only. So watch it while you can for free. There is a lot of useful info with a lot more coming. I'm really excited to be a part of this project!
