Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

That's awesome! ;D Why can't I get Liv Tyler to be in one of my movies?

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Buscemi's flick is showing at Sundance this year, ya know... and so are several other films shot with the DVX. Jan touched on this on her post.

Pretty neato.

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

BTW: does anyone know if they used the anamorphic adapter on this film?

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

I'm looking forward to Buscemi's film at Sundance. I liked his Trees Lounge flick....I've seen some of November projected digitally, and it didn't look too bad...and they shot straight 4-3. With the A Adapter it should look as good as the dvx100a can in a film blowup, especially considering they spent a few dimes on production...

Do you know what this is? Its the world's smallest violin playing just for the waitresses.

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Steve Buscemi made a movie using a DVX! wow, what an original idea.

I bet no one here would have ever thought of it.

When you got a name, the door opens to radical unheard of before revolutionairy, genius level, daring, amazing feats, the talk of the town, did he really? mmm oh, he's so clever........ no one else would ever think of doing.

huhhhhh?

I guess it's great the elites appreciate other elites.

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

I love when Stars slum it. Dont think I wouldnt be using an Arri Moviecam if I could afford it :P

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Lonesome Jim was not shot 16:9 with an anamorphic lens. I am using a scene from that movie here at the Festival to demo Avid Xpress Pro which was used to cut the feature. It is 4:3.

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Hi Michael,

Then they did what Nancy Schreiber did with November, took a 16:9 slice out of the 4:3. I was wondering and was thinking I would ask Phil next time he called.

Thanks for the insight,

Jan

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

That's two professional DP's who chose to shoot without the Ana Ada.
I am prepping a short film and planned on using the 16X9 lens since it gives the higher res.
It does look great, But- it's a bit of a pain to deal with. Focus is a major headache, shallow DOF is near impossible and the image distorts a bit on the sides.
I may go with the pros and toss it aside.
We need native 16X9 with a longer lens.

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Use it for your wide shots. To keep the res up. We are shooting a feature this summer and I think we are going to do all our shots that are shallow with the micro 35 and up the detail just a bit, and then do all of the wides with the ana.

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Did anyone see Festival Dailies last night? It's a half hour program on the Sundance channel playing every day this week giving us an inside look at the Sundance Film Festival. Last night they briefly spoke to Buscemi about Lonsome Jim and showed a bit of footage. It wasn't alot, but man, it looked realllllllly nice.

Over and out!

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

The gaffer on the film, Bill had given one of our camera guys the impression it was filmed widescreen. If they chose 4:3, then they at least got the full resolution from the chips... which was a good choice too.

Anywho...

Re: Buscemi shoots Tyler on DVX

Once they go to an HD master, tjhe would do a 16:9 slice or a "tilt & scan" as I refer to it (top and bottom, rather than side by side as in a pan & scan) for compositional purposes.
