Burning DVD from FCP

I'm new to FCP so forgive me if this question is stupid. I imported video from a miniDV tape into a HD FCP. I edited this video and it looks great in FCP. When I burn it to a DVD it is compressed into about 1/3 the usual size.

How can I get this onto a DVD so that it looks like it's supposed to?

An encode to mpeg2/m2v for DVD authoring will always compromise quality.

As to looking "like it's support to" -- not certain what they means.

DV is compressed 5 to 1 in the camera. Then when a DVD is creating, that footage is heavily compressed a second time.

With this camera to DVD workflow, not much can be done.
