Burberry films 15 minute fashion show shot entirely on Iphone 5s

It looks kinda crummy (the picture quality). The overhead dolly is fun, but you could have done that on any number of cameras. What an idiotic choice.

pretty obviously its not a nice camera, the highlights are awful. But for a camera phone, not bad. I think it's dumb people do videos like these though, not sure what they're trying to prove.

none of would have watched it without the hype of 'shooting on a phone' - so it worked.

overall the vid is crap - proper cams/gopros would have been better

It's very obvious with the money they have access too and the gear they did get for this that they could shoot on any camera they wanted to, my point being that it's nuts that these will be in the pockets of millions in a month or so.

After the youtube compression, it doesn't look that much worse than a lot of DSLR videos I've seen honestly.

But I guess this is more of a case of paid, full professionals using lesser tools vs amatuers and young film makers using higher quality tools they don't yet understand

"after Youtube" is a myth. In 1080p 2013 Youtube you can still tell the difference between film and Alexa. 1080p Youtube is at par or very close with broadcast HDTV. Besides, the worse the delivery compression, the more you need a clean master.

That said, we are not the target market for the Burberry women's line. Maybe we are taking notice, but I wonder if the people who's attention they are trying to get actually give a rat's ass. They just look at the video, and it doesn't look very pretty, and kinda cheap and it doesn't have an altogether positive effect.

How dare Burberry invalidates my lust for new equipment!!!! hahahaha... at the end of the day, content is king; people can have a camera that shoots 4k raw... no, 6k raw, has a dynamic range of 20, and fps of 960; but if it's all about the number of eyeballs looking at your stuff.... dude, the sad part is that this iphone video probably has more views than most videos shot with 10X more expensive stuff. Hell, I bet there are a lot of videos on youtube/vimeo/etc. that use "lesser" equipment that have millions of views, while videos with "top quality" equipment only have a few thousand if that.

I guess that segues into another point. I have to stop browsing this forum. It makes me want to spend money on new equipment. :-) hahahahahahha... but yet.... For some reason, I'm still here most mornings :-) I guess for guys, electronics is the equivalent of the "shoe fetish" that women have. Closets full of shoes -- different styles, different colors... for all occasions.. but at the end of the day.. does it really matter?.... Think differently -- think iphone.. hahahahah

I bet some where out in cyberspace, RIGHT now, someone is yelling out "HERESY!!!! Burn him at the stake!!" hahaha :-)

Yep. I think the people actually interested in watching this are more interested in clothes than camera IQ. Contrast ratio? Highlights? What's that? Look at the (insert fashion comment here)!

Hmmm, that video is a head scratcher... I did note that the "Shoot with iPhone 5s" was a prominent title card at the end. I can't help but think that Apple provided a tie in for the production of the video. I also can't help thinking that with the hundreds of thousands of dollars that the event cost to put on they could not have come up with the cash to shoot it "Properly" with adequate gear. I have to admit though that I do not get high fashion. Producing a fashion line at the level shown in the video is an amazing feat, but looking at the clothes I still have to say, WTF? Those ill fitting, formless outer coats looked like cr*p.

This video aside, we live in an amazing world today. I always like to check myself against what I was doing as a teenager. When I was in highschool making movies with my friends we would have killed for a camera like this. Even the 18 month old 4S I have on my desk shoots 1080p. Compare that to the VHS and Video8mm cameras friends and I were using back then. In terms of pure creativity and quality, the current generation has it really good. Though I'm sure the same was said back in the mid 90's by the people who grew up having to pay for Super8 cartridges and processing. Which we also experimented with a little back then.

But also back then I was editing between two VCRs and these kids can edit right on the phone with proper transitions and titles. Heck I remember buying a cheap Sima titler back then from a Videomaker magazine, I thought it was electronic but when I got it it ended up being a blue metal board with white magnet letters.

So say all you want about latitude, deep DOF, codec, etc. I'm still amazed. Granted I'm not going to pull my phone out to do a runway shoot, but... I'm in a different place now.

Think of the kids, especially the ones who will see this video and be inspired :)

Here what I get out of this video:

You can legitimately shoot with any "modern" camera available. (period)

I'm not saying that they are equal. I'm not saying that I don't have preferences. I am saying that some years ago here on DVXUser, I predicted that the fanboy wars were going to end because the gap was closing fast (the relevant difference in IQ). And it's still closing. 80K Arri, 20K Red, 2K BMC, $400 50D....what's the difference in image quality? The TRUE difference in image quality is WHO'S BEHIND THE CAMERA and WHAT'S IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA.

I'm not saying that IQ isn't better on the Arri because it is....but the difference is rarely relevant based on THE CAMERA. The crew, lighting, subject, STORY, actor, set, effects, color correction, sound, music....these make more of a difference than the camera. Get used to it.

What camera is used to shoot is less and less important.

Honestly: How much better would the enjoyment of watching this video be, if they shot with 5 Arri Alexa's? Would it be MORE ENJOYABLE TO WATCH??? Obviously, to each his own.

Now...for those of us on this forum...would it have been easier TO SHOOT? Hahahaha....

Thanks for posting. It reminds me how insignificant the cam I shoot with truly is, lol.
(ps...I'm having fun shooting with the Canon 50D, ML RAW.)

Cheers Folks!!! :)

Keep in mind that we are watching a compressed 720p youtube flick. All in all, it's pretty darn OK looking considering. So ok that for every Iphone user there is no reason not to get that shot or moment due to the fact that you have a capable camera in your pocket. Now the new OiS looks a bit weird. Kinda like a fisher price home screen.

I will say that with this camera and other cell phone, keep in mind that there are hundreds of thousands of videographers now bidding for your slice of the pie now. Put a decent mic on this camera and you have a valid rig.

Well yes, it would be more visually enjoyable. And since fashion is an almost entirely visual thing, then camera choice would make a significant difference here. Its' the opposite of a talking-head interview, which is almost as enjoyable with just the sound track.

No offense, but your point of view holds little water. It's like saying "a good filmmaker could make great work with a light that flickers once in a while." Well sure, but why do that if you can afford better? Besides, any camera can look good under a narrow set of circumstances, what's important is to use something that will let you down almost never, one that will look great under all kinds of shooting conditions, not just the very few that we see in a camera demo or the nonsense that was Reverie and is the Movi demo. You learn most from what sellers of equipment and fanboys DON'T show you.

Your statement also implies that anyone can shoot anything, regardless of financing. I'd venture that if you can't afford a good camera for you prod, other things will also be weak, from the actors to the sets to the script - at least those other problems are very likely.

Again with the youtube argument. In 2013 youtube compression rarely causes much effect on image quality - only in very dark, somewhat or very noisy scenes. 1080p youtube is actually very good if you know what to send them on your end.
