someone stole my camera out of my stunt bag yesterday. New Nikon D40 with a 50mm, 1.8 lens. Left the other two lenses and my ipod.
(*&^%%%%)
24 years of doing this job and NEVER had anything taken before. I had some nice shots on the camera as well.
ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!

I'm very bummed with you man. ARRRGGGGHHHH is right! Had a camera stolen in '73 with pics I'll never have again. Sorry to hear this. Stealing is waaaaay up there of things I HATE. You do the work for something and someone jack ass gets it for free .....

well, look at it this way. Now that the prices of used D200's are going down....you can get twice the camera for like $800. Usually with only like 5-10K clicks. Helluva deal in my opinion.

Still sorry to hear about it, as I love mine and would not want it ganked!

So sorry to hear what happened to you. It's horrible.

I also second the other post... leaving the other lenses and the ipod sounds very, very irregular... I mean, was it a highly discerning thief who said to himself: "I like the 1.8f, but the other lenses are inferior, and I already have an iPod". Weird. Anyone who is that much of a photo fan to understand lenses in that detail, already has his/her own, and has no need to steal. And if it was for pure profit/resale, then why not take all? Doesn't make sense, but then again, a lot of things in life don't make sense :)

That sucks. I feel for you. Some of us work really hard to just save up the money for these things, and to have it gone in an instant, and for someone to get it for free.

This world sucks. People don't care about other people.

Update...... the camera was found this morning by the honeywagon driver, underneath some garbage bags next to the honeywagon. I think the prompt action by the AD's and the fact that everyone was talking about it made someone figure out it was going to be a major problem.
As far a leaving the ipod and other lenses, They really would have had to take the whole backpack camera bag to get those things, and as we all know, not very many thieves are smart. They had a couple of seconds to snag the camera and didn't know what they were getting, they knew that the bag would be missed far earlier than just the camera. Or they possibly figured out that the lens wasn't auto focus and telephoto and limited to one size and dumped it. I don't know, but I feel I am very
lucky, and as far as insurance, the incident was filed on the production reports and i was told that reimbursement would have been immediate.
And there were some pretty good shots on the card, I will post a couple tomorrow,
Thank you everyone for your concern.

Hurray! Well now you're really gonna take care of your gear, no? Just kidding. I know it sucks when you can't relax anywhere because there are sticky fingers always looking to rip you off. It's really sad. I remember when I was living in Denmark a number of years ago, and you could leave your wallet on a park bench, and come back and it would still be there the next day. I hear things have gotten somewhat worse in recent years, but it's still like that in Japan today. Thieves suck... they really lower the quality of life for everyone.

Thank you everyone for your concern,
Here is one of the photos from after the camera had been returned.
It's one of us "terrorists" before he is gunned down. Note the smoke from the receiver and the shell ejection above his head.

you know what would have been cool you should have taken a really tight shot of someone holding the camera that looks suspicious (maybe latino, I'm hispanic so I'm alowed to make that joke) then tell us that the theif accidentilly took a picture of himself, and just play along a little bit and eventually tell us the truth. that would have been fun.....god I really need to shoot something (despretley, and learn how to spell)
