bullet effect

I have no idea how that could be done only in AE, but I think it could be done rather easily in 3DS Max or some other 3d app working with AE. I'm doing something sort of like that for my timefest entry.

You MAY be able to pull that effect off using the CC Cylinder plugin. You'd create a texture that looks like a unwrapped bullet, but with some complete perfect green at the tip where the cone of the tip tapers down. You then apply the texture to CC Cylinder, and use a keyer to get rid of the green. The rest is a slow blurring of the background and displacement maps.

You could do the same thing with the shell casing.

Were I going to do it, I'de go the 3D route. Something like that would be WAY easy to model, texture and animate. You could probably do it in less time that you would spend trying to find an AE workaround.

I'm almost positive that Andrew is using a 3d package to make the bullet. He has used 3d once or twice in previous tutorials (bad blood). Can't wait for the new DVD.

Looks like hes using a few elements here... a 3d bullet.. a preset fire from his DVD, Trapcode Particle for the smoke it LOOKS like another form of particle for the blurry bullet trail, and then a few masks for the gun slide going forward and back... and of course time remap and wiggle... w00t.. dunno if that helped you any.. (probably not) but i thought id give it a try.

a real bullet starts to "mushroom" after it leaves the barrel. that would be cool to add in the effect. thats about all i know about bullet effects.
