GH2 Building a weight plate for GH2 and Glidecam

My current GH2 setup weighs 3lbs, but I need to hit from 4-6lbs for the Glidecam HD-2000 to properly work. I came up with this simple steel plate that allows the camera to be moved around and adjusted like normal.

It is a 4.5 inch x 3 inch x 0.5 inch steel plate that has 0.25 inch holes which should line up with the holes on the glidecam. The corner holes are countersunk so the mounting screws will be flush against the plate and will not interfere with the camera. According to Solidworks, the total weight after drilling should be around 1.5lbs.

My question is, where can I buy a precut 4.5 inch x 3 inch x 0.5 inch? Is there a certain type of steel I should be looking at? The cheapest steel I can find online is galvanized steel.

1018 cold rolled plain carbon steel should be the easiest to drill. check www.mcmaster.com for a piece of 1/2" x 3" x 6" bar for $11 + shipping.

Probably an easier way to go would be to find a local machine shop and see if they have a "remnant" piece they can cut to size for you.

To change subjects, I'd go a different direction and figure out how to lower the gimble/handle relative to the camera and add weight on the bottom. I've been working on jib pole mounted stabilizer system for a few years now and the whole thing with a G6 and Oly 17mm weights less than 3 lbs and can be flown on a 15' pole totally hands free. I'm a firm believer in balance and technique over more weight any time.

Cheers,
Pete

Thanks man, just bought two. I figure I could save a few dollars by making my own, but it wouldn't be worth it.

The plates from glidecam were only $15/piece so i really wouldn't be saving anything if I made my own. Do you have a pic of your jib setup?
