Building a Set

Hi Guys,

This is my first post on DVX user but I have been a fan for some time now. A truely great resource.

I am shooting a television pilot at the end of this year and had orginally planned to do most of the shots on location. I have since inspected many of the sites available and have realised they are all unsuitable or not to the requirements of our script.

It is very low budget < 30k and I have not really considered building a set before but am beginning to think it might be my best option.

Has anyone had experience constructing a low budget set? I am looking to create a small retail store based in a shopping centre. I thought of using green screen on doors etc. to give the false impression the shop was actually in the centre. I am looking to lease a space in an old scout hall for 3 months to construct the set and film some of the shots for the pilot.

Any input, links, suggestions, encouragement, discouragement would be VERY appreciated.

The pilot will be shot on a modified HVX200 in 720p.

Thank you.

im currently in the process of building sets for my low budget feature. building sets is the way to go on a low budget. u dont have to give any money to shop owners or work around their schedule, also u have a controled enviroment to shoot in. its not that hard either, "if ur a craftsman and imaginative."

my budgets alot lower than 30k to, mines about 10k. im turnin my entire house into a set. ive also got a green screen room, ur idea about green screen doors is smart, but think it through cuz it sounds hard to do, but just make sure u can pull it off b4 u do it. "im sure u can"

remember, plywoods only 5 dollars a sheet right now, and in a set things dont have to b built perfect, u can cut corners to save money. but anyway, definetly go for it.
